• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Smoke and effects

Sorry for double post. I didn't know how to move the post.

I just discovered something that I need confirmation on. Is there a limitation on the number of particles or which effects can be triggered by the smoke system in the aircraft.cfg file?

What we are trying to accomplish is an explosion on a ship upon impact of a missile. The ship is a boat with aircraft.cfg instead of sim.cfg so we tried to use the smoke system to trigger an explosion and long term fire and smoke effect. All we get is an explosion, but no fire and smoke column. While testing we added the effect to the powered glider and triggered it with the smoke system and only got the explosion, but no fire and smoke, but when triggering the effect in the FX Tool we do see the full effect with fire and smoke. We also see the full effect when triggered in a bomb that has a sim.cfg. So their must be some limitations in the smoke system.

If that is the case then the question is can we trigger the effect in the effects section by adding it to the touchdown trigger. Is touchdown the same trigger as impact in sim.cfg or can we add the impact trigger in the effects section of the aircraft.cfg and also the water impact for when the missiles or bullets hit the water?

Attached is the effect in question. The texture files required are fx_1.bmp, fx_2.bmp, fx_3.bmp, Gen02.wav, and fx_fireadd.bmp

When displayed in FX Tool it shows the complete effect. When added to an aircraft.cfg in the SmokeSystem or Lights it will only display part of it. Can anyone tell me why?
