• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

[SOLVED] GMAX Freezing after I hit Create Jetway!

Hi everyone,

I want to start to thank Jeffrey for the beautiful add-on he has given us and after I tried it out with the demo on Grenchen airfield I wanted to use this system on my Düsseldorf scenery as well with a jetway I created in blender. I want to emphasize at this point that my GMAX knowledge is practically non-exiting and this might very well be a rookie mistake on GMAX but I normally do not work with this particular program.
Anyway all goes fine with naming the parts, making the dummies, running the script and setting the vital data. I wanted to do a small test so I left most data as set by default. The problem comes when I hit the "Create SODE Jetway" button. GMAX opens a small, empty window called "MAXScript Listener" and then freezes. I do see the script creating the bones but I get stuck on the program freezing after which I cannot do anything anymore... Am I doing something wrong. As reference I have these screenshots of one of the attempts I made...

I hope anyone can help and I thank for it in advance,

Thanks for your kind words!

If a problem occurs, maxscript usually aborts with a error message and shows that in the listener window. From my observations, the skinning process can take a long time (depending on the complexity of the model -> number of vertices to be more precise). For one project for example, it took like 4-6 minutes for the skinning, but it was a very detailed jetway model. 3dsMax is by magnitudes faster by the way!

So, to check the integrity of the script, you might want to try to compile my demo jetway object. Or you can try it again with your model and just wait a couple of minutes.

As a last resort if all this won't help, you can send me your model via PM. I'll be back home coming weekend.

Thank you for your quick reply Jeffrey.
I tried your suggestion and it worked, the animation is in order within GMAX. I'll export and try it in FSX tonight!
Thanks for you help!

It seems to work now, although I've got one last question which has very little to do with the intial problem but it's something I somehow missed in the SDK document... The XML programming to set the jetway in it's FSX environment, am I supposed to edit an XML or create a new one? And where is supposed to be placed exactly...?

Create a new one for your airport including your objects and place it on the SODE xmls folder in sim root (if I dont remember bad)

According to the thread title, an old project jetways I was working with tooks 10-12 minutes to run the script... just go grab some chips meanwhile.... hehe
