• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have made custom models of terminals for my Chennai airport which has beta released on Flightsim but any help on how I could also implement night textures into this model will be amazing.

Thanking you

This is the upcoming update but I also need night textures I cant find a way to add it.

Night textures for 3D-models or ground polygons?
I'm making GP by MCX-wizard with checking the box "LM" at needed material (Of course, there should be a night texture in the folder. Otherwise it won't be drawn)

Which tools did you use to make the model?

In general adding night textures is easy. You need to create the texture files (that's most of the work) and assign them in your materials.

I used sketchup to create model and put in normal textures I tried to rename a texture file to _lm but it didn’t work is that any help?

You must not rename but add a texture (night). Or copy a normal texture with a suffix "_LM", as a last resort.
For the night texture I'm usually using the day one, but more darker (adding an upper layer with black fill and 10%-opacity in Photoshop). Except of specific parts - windows, lamps and so on, of course.
By the way, you can know the proper texture names in generated xxx_0.asm file when exporting mdl (with "keepASMfile" in MCX-options).

Oh because I use paint tool to add day textures in sketchup it’s not possible to add both right that’s what I’m trying to find an answer to.Do you just photoshop a day texture or something else?

Oh certainly no! One material - one texture. But when I want to see how a winter texture on the roof (for example) looks like in my model, I simply replace the corresponded texture in sketchup material (from roof.bmp to roof_WI.bmp). It may be a night texture instead, doesn't matter. In this case, the main thing is not to forget to change it back before export.
All the textures I make in P-shop, yes. After putting all of them into the my scenery Texture folder I get day, night and season textures (if needed).

Ahh I see so just duplicate and rename to _lm then in model converter x convert to dxtbmp then it’s all good right?

Generally true, but it’s still better to make a special night texture, more darker then a day one.
In MCX you must add it as "emissive texture" (in the "Material Editor") and MCX will convert the both of them to dxt when clicking on "save texture" button.
Another way: it's not necessary to add an emissive texture in MCX, but you must convert it manually by DXTBMP or Imagetool then.

Oh ok like sketchup doesn’t save the material file unless you use them in the model and I wonder how then will the night textures show for the whole model like everywhere i use the texture.

Yes. You must take care about it yourself.
An expotred .mdl contains references to day and night textures both, for every material.
So, night tetxures will show if they are present in the Texture scenery folder, if they are not the model will remain untextured at night (except when the night texture is specially removed by manual editing of its xxx_0.asm file)

ahh i see

Anyways in conclusion you add night texture option in materials tab in model converter X then night textures will be incorporated into the model.
