• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some Ground Polys Don't Display

We're currently in beta on a new capability in ADE that generates ground polys (as an alternative to using Gmax and FS8 MakeMdl). Basically, ADE generates equivalent code to that which would be output by FS8 Makemdl for the same set of polys.

We've come across an issue that hopefully you can help us resolve.

When all ground polys are distant (at least 1 km.) from the ARP (the location in the SCALE_AGL command), sometimes one or more do not display in FSX. This appears to be machine-dependent since the same set of polys works fine on other systems - but seems consistent on the machine on which it does happen. By accident, we've discovered that the problem can be avoided by adding an additional ground poly near the ARP.

I am reluctant to automatically add such a poly without known why it works in such cases, because it may have a detrimental effect in other cases.

Can anyone explain what is happening inside FSX, please?

Hi Don,

Sounds like an interesting condition, I haven't heard of it before. Are all the parameters, like v1 and v2 the same in both cases?

It's the same ADE file compiled by the same software - but, of course, compiled on different systems. I haven't run a comparison on either the .asm files or the .bgl files - which I will do.
