• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some Items will not show under display

I really like FSX Planner for it lets even a novice like me build an airport. My problem is that I added a vor\dme and markers and runway taxi points to the airport I am building and can't get them to display even though I have ticked these items for display on the display menu. The items are listed in the xml file for my airport so I am at a lost as to why they will not display. Any help would be good. Many thanks.

You have to distinguish between scenery objects and airport facilities. Objects you can see, facilities you may see in some cases.

By adding a Vor/DME you get the functionality to tune you Nav instruments into the defined frequency and can make instrument approaches to your airport. So it is there, you can use it, but not see it.

VOR/DME huts are a default object in FSX which you can place e.g. by using the EZ-Scenery successor "Instant Scenery" from Flight 1. You can see them, but they do nothing for your instrument flight.

On the other hand, a runway has both the functionality (you can land on it) as well as the visual representation (you can see in the simulator).

As a rule of thumb: what you can do with FSXPLanner or ADE is about functionality, for visuality you need other tools.

I am sorry, I wasn't clear when I said that the Items would not display. I mean't that I could not get the items to display in FSX Planner even though they are listed in the xml file. I do understand them not appearing in FSX. When designing the airport in FSX Planner the items should appear when they are ticked in the display menu of FSX Planner. Any other help would be helpful. Many Thanks.

George,

This is only a guess, but check the third menu in FSXPlanner from the left (display): are the missing items tick marked here?

That is odd. Can you post the xml file for the airport, and a screen shot of FSX Planner with the airport displayed, and the Display menu shown as well?

Thanks!

Russell, Attached are the xml and screenshots requested for my airport. The items would display when I was using version 17. I think they began to not display after I changed to the public beta release and have not shown since. Maybe thses files will help me to understand if I did something wrong. Many thanks for your help.

Really Weird

Really Weird

I keep getting the same problem even after deleting all the .xml Marker code
then putting 3 new ones in using FSX Planner

They are in the code but you can not see them

Tried it on YSSY and one I have done and can not replicate this problem.

I have found out why the markers, etc are not being displayed.

FSX Planner only loads those markers, NDBs and VORs that are within the test radius of the airport. (If it didn't do this then every VOR and NDB in the entire bgl file would be loaded). However, the test radius in the xml file for your airport was in nautical miles, and FSX Planner was erroneously converting that to feet instead of miles when checking for VORs, etc.

I'll make the fix for the next release.

In the meantime you can open the airport in FSX Planner, change the test radius to meters, re-save the airport, close it and then open it again and the VORs, markers and NDBs will be displayed.
