• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some unclickable gauge polys and knobs (Solved)

Remember that one: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427167 ?

The plot thickerns as this also happens in a FSX-spec VC.

Symptoms:

1) Certain polys using a gauge poly material can only be clicked from a very certain angle. All other polys using said material work just fine.

2) Certain knobs can only be clicked from a very certain angle. All other knobs work just fine.

After much selective exporting, I've tracked the culprit down to two parts that formerly were respective parents to the "jinxed" polys and knobs.
If I export the model without said parts, the polys and knobs work just fine.

What can I do to "save" these obviously corrupted (former parent) parts without having to redo them from scratch?

So far, I've tried to...

- Reset Scale and Transform
- Reset XForm
- Linking the affected knobs and poly to a box and then unlinking them again

...but all to no avail.

Any other ideas?

It might be that you have a 'gauge' texture on the parts, in which case, gauge texture over-rides texture mesh, causing the gauge mesh not to work, or have Mouse rectums... :S

To test this, if you have a texture on them, give them a new texture and see if that fixes them.

You are positive it isn't your gauge part codes? Might be in the top area, like a bad GUID, forgot to add the KF's amount, etc.

If it was the code, the knobs and gauges wouldn't work at all.

Negative on the texture, by the way. I've already tried that.

I found out my issue, which was done in Max. I had duplicated parts via Copy, but didn't realize 'Instance' was active. All the parts I made off of that switch were bad. Making new clones (no offense to people who have been cloned) then worked properly when made via Copy'Copy.

ha ha ha..... Just tried mapping a wing that was mirrored from the other side, simple texture trade out. Accidentally did Copy/Instance....

TWO TIMES IN A ROW....!!!! sigh.....

Select color for other side, they all go to that color. Select old color, back to the same.

twice...

If only we could have Copy/Copy as automatic and Instance as 'must select only'.

By the way, on your switches, to test my theory, make a new basic part and same code, see if it works. If it does, its the part.

You might be able to make super small squares which would be main new animated parts, copy out the Polygons from the already finished switches and parts and Detach them, select micro square and go to Attach mode, attach Polygons, and see if that will at least enable you to keep the premapped, pre done parts.

I've just laughed out loud.

Umm..."Copy" is standard in GMax, so I'm pretty safe in that regard.

Hmmmm...

Funny, the knobs turn inoperable upon intersecting with any kind of geometry. I've replaced the parent part with a simple box and as soon as a single corner of the knob intersects with said box, it refuses to be clickable.

- Edit:

Made a new part, animated it, attached mouserect and animation tag to it and positioned it so that it intersects the "bad" parent part. It works flawlessly.

Conclusion: New knobs. *Grr*
