• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Something Different About The Complex Shader Button in Model Converter X

Hi,

I been meaning to post this for time and I'm currious as to why the Shaders button seems to be working differently. In the past when I imported a mdl into MCX, I could open the Material Editor and see the red highlights in my model, depending on the material I select. Here's an image of what it once looked like:

For some time now, the only way I can see the red highlights is to turn on, or click the Shader button. But when I turn the Shader button on, the model doesn't look the same and it's all bright white and the grass is black. Here's an image below:

Here's what it looks like when I highlight the material and the Shader turned on:

This is an image of the model when the Shader button is turned off:

But when the Shader button is turned off, the red highlights will not show even though the box Highlight is checked. Is there something wrong with my settings?

I have seen the same thing with certain models in the latest versions. The shader button has to be pressed to see the red highlights.

You can adjust the light intensity and angle, using the buttons to the left of the view mode buttons, as I remember. It will make your display using the shader much closer to not using it.

Do the two you mean the complex shader must be on to see the highlighting or do you need to turn it off?

Yes, the complex shader has to be turned on to see the red highlights. If the complex shader is turned off, it will not highlight the materials in red. I prefer that the complex shader be turned off and still be able to see the red highlights and the textures. The problem is that when the complex shader is turned on, the model doesn't look right and you don't see the actual texture colors, if you understand what I mean.

I've had the same thing for several months, maybe even a year. But I do remember that I did not have to turn on the complex shader to see the red highlights and I could see the textures in my model.

Would you be able to share a model that shows the problem for testing? When I load some of my test models of ground polygons here the highlighting works fine with either shader setting.

Hi Arno,

I'm using the original FSDT KDFW model. Will it be okay to upload it here? There's is one thing I should mention. If I remember correctly, when I import the re-mapped model into MCX from Sketchup, I think the highlight does work on either setting. But when I import the original model into MCX, that's when the complex shader has to be turned on. Should the materials still highlight with either setting even though it's the original model? It seems to me that the original file highlighted on either setting at one time

You can send me the MDL by private message. Then I can have a look and will delete it afterwards.
