Hi all,
I'm exploring the idea of starting a small payware aircraft development effort focused on GA aircraft for MSFS — popular models with mainly analog cockpits, suited for passenger, cargo, and ambulance roles (taking advantage of MSFS2024’s career mode being opened to 3rd parties).
My background:
•20+ years as a pilot (have flown many types from light singles to widebodies)
•Business admin degree
•Hobbyist-level experience with sim tweaks (flight dynamics, textures)
•No serious coding or 3D modeling skills
The plan:
I’d handle research, project management, testing, manuals, marketing, and maybe flight dynamics — while outsourcing modeling, texturing, coding, sounds, etc. I know this isn't cheap, but I'm willing to invest.
My main questions:
•Is it realistic to succeed in this space without doing the technical work myself?
•Have others done something similar (mostly outsourcing)?
•Am I bringing enough value to justify leading a project like this?
•Any red flags or advice before jumping in?
I’m not aiming for “study-level” or PMDG-tier products — just solid, well-presented GA planes with decent systems depth. I’d love to hear thoughts from those who've built teams or seen projects like this attempted.
Thanks in advance!
