• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Steam I didn't want

I apparently made a mistake to visit the STEAM website and check their FSX offering a few weeks ago. Now when I click on home in FSX I get the screen shown below. Since I routinely delete all cookies and other unwanted intrusions to my computer I was surprised to find this. Does anyone know what I need to do to eliminate whatever they are doing? Thanks for the help.

Ed

Cheeky B*gg*rs - so do I never click on Home - I always start on Free Flight.

EDIT
OK FSX remembers the last tab you were on so if I use Free Flight then that's what I get. As to stopping the ad on Home I suspect that is coming from Microsoft. They still own the brand and have engaged DTG to distribute it on Steam.

Don't go to the Home page.

Seriously though, you have done nothing. The Home page takes you to FSInsider. Microsoft has changed that page to what you see.

cheers,
Lane

Lane is right. I am sure anyone with FSX would now see that screen even if they had never been anywhere near Steam

Thanks for the info. I can't remember ever going to Home. I'm always jumping between Settings and Free Flight. Glad to know that Steam didn't inundate me with executables.

Ed

P.S. Apparently I need make some things clear. I clicked on the Home tab. I did this because on another FS forum someone else was asking about it. I had no idea that the Home tab was in effect a browser that went to fsinsider.com. I was thinking that my one visit to the steam website was the reason that FSX on steam was appearing. Now I know better so no big deal. It's been my experience that some commercial websites don't respect your right of ownership to your computer so this is what drove my thought process. I have no previous experience with Dovetail or Steam products. So I was just being cautious about potential tracking cookies or an executable on my computer. In this case obviously no harm no foul.

What's the fuss?

I don't think there is any fuss. Other than Ed was concerned that there might be some connection between this change and his visiting Steam. Since that is clearly not the case we can all go back to life with a smile on our faces for a job well done :)

Same for me, I don't even enter the crappy steam website yet I have this on home. Not a big deal though as I usually don't check this section. Might announce an addon once in a while.

No fuss???

Wait, you thought that visiting the Steam website infected your PC and caused the default FSX tab to go to some Steam advertisement? Why on earth would that happen? Steam is a safe and reliable gaming platform/store. Having used it for the past few years, I can't understand everyone's fear of it. You probably deleted your FSX.cfg, which caused the sim to load up the Home tab, the default one prior to the user exiting the sim on another tab (so if you close the sim on Free Flight, that is where it will load up next time). If you didn't delete your cfg, Dovetail probably forces the default tab to Home every so often. Steam would have no way of magically detecting UI components (which vary completely in every game) and setting the page to some advertizement. It's simply the FSInsider website that Dovetail can now change up when they want.

The answer is simple. See my post #6. It's nothing to do with the Steam "crappy" website.

I think that what is going on is that 'home' has been updated and its simply seeing the 'home page'. Probably had nothing to do with your going to Steam.

Nice to see its growing again.

I havent looked at the home screen since I first loaded FSX. Goodness, I forgot it had one, lol..
