Here are two hints for you to keep in mind...
1. Never, ever use "pure white" on any aircraft model in FS. Use at least 5-10% less than "pure white." The reason is simple, reflections and specular shine are always brighter than the base color, so if you use "pure white," there's no where for relections and spec color to go!
2. When you lay out your artwork, always keep the lines, rivets, etc. on separate layers. You will create the bump map using ONLY this detail layer over a pure white background.
