• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Stubborn vegetation (unable to remove it) in some areas?

Hello,

A couple times now, I've run into the issue of being unable to remove vegetation with a polygon and vegetation scale and density sliders set to zero. I've only built bush strips in Papua, so I'm often working in pretty remote areas - unsure if that's related?

On my latest project south of the Baliem Valley, even creating a runway object doesn't remove vegetation; even with the box "remove vegetation near runway" checked, there's vegetation ON the runway; covering it in fact. My understanding is that a runway object should never have vegetation on it?

Is this a known issue, and is there a known workaround? I've found the thread below but won't be able to try it for a few days; if anyone else has suggestions in the meantime I'd be grateful!

When unable to remove vegetation Is probably because there Is a vegetation biomes override polygon hidden

Can you please turn on the debug shapes option/terrain in Dev mode and look for any ?

(If you happen to have my Powerlines scenery please disable It before turning on the debug shapes, It Is pretty hefty!)

Thanks, interesting idea, I didn't think about a biome override. I do have Bijans trees installed, wonder if it might come from there? Otherwise this area is the middle of nowhere, can't figure what other override might be there..

yep, could be Bijan stuff

here you can find the solution :)

Finally revisiting this. Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work. I'm a newbie so there's likely something I'm not understanding correctly.

I found that another community package everyone who flies in this area runs (wantok's terrain fixes mod) does have a polygon around the area in question, so that is likely the cause.

So what I did is, I drew an "exclusion rectangle" around the area, being sure to completely encompass Wantok's polygon, and then selected "exclude polygons" in the Properties window of my exclusion rectangle. But even though my poloygon centered over the airport still has all vegetation sliders pulled to zero, there's still vegetation in my polygon.

Any other thoughts? Even something very simple; I suspect I'm just making some sort of dumb mistake here. Does polygon/rectange order make a difference, in the scenery window etc?

Thanks!

I have checked that package, and it is the culript, because it is forcing vegetation inside its polylgon (pretty drastic solution, but with that poor aerials, the only one..)

The solution suggested in the St. Barth is still working

Steps:

add a exclusionRectagle object and make sure it includes all the corner of the polygon
in its properties, select "exclude Polygons"

COMPILE!
PLACE in community

Make sure that in the content.xml your scenery is loaded after the Wantok one!

reload the sim

the polygon should be gone

attached a simple working project in the area,

And that was the key, thanks! I was expecting to see the results in the scenery editor; I was not aware that I had to build the package and place it haha.

Ok, this area is a mess and this'll be a fun project :).
