• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

i have got a map of twenty images from virtual earth satelite tiles in sbuilder 310, everything sits in place, i have tried to make blend masks, i am trying to create a hole in the photo tile to see the water, i created the tiff 8bit grey scale photo, named it with the _B for blend mask, even did a hydro poly for where i wanted the water to be, it drew default terrain instead, i have only to show the water again to have my first project, i took all the tile images and worked on them in photoshop to make them more identical to each other, some are faded or really bright, i changed the photo tiles to 24bit aswell, have been reading loads of posts but cannot find the answer to this.

I am not so familiar with the SBuilderX interface, but I think you need to use a watermask, not a blendmask. The blendmask will make things transparent and show the terrain below. A watermask will become water. In that case you also don't need the water polygons.

thanx for your time, i recently put the bmp into photoshop, painted over with white and that worked, saved with its own alpha channel, which software do you use for photo textures, i have just got used to sbuilder, also the photo images i get are terrible, outback areas, photos one half blue the other dark, just wondered inf anyone had any tips on correcting them, i have used photoshop and cured the pale ones but they dont match up when i have all the bmps together. thanx

Some people like, some others do not like it, but I found PureImage (check the web for it) very useful to match the colors of my photo images and the colors of default FSX textures.

Pureimage is an interesting app, but chokes on big images and has no easy way to use a cropped area to determine the color curves data (it would be nice if you could output the curve data like GIMP can).

I use blendmask with hydro poly all the time, to provide some detail to the water such as underwater details like reefs.

Do you look at your bgl in TMFViewer? That can help in seeing what is happening.

i have stayed away from tmfviewer techno fear i guess, have dl pureimage but have nit tried it yet, i have all the images with the water mask, but the photo images dont match fsx even with ultimate terrain on, which incidently makes all the water vanish when its on, will take a look at both programs, thanx for now

This happens when some other addon affects the necessary entries in the Terrain.Cfg file. Starting the UTX Setup Tool should fix the problem, as the utility checks for the necessary entries and if missing will reinsert them.

how do i work out where coastlines are in default scenery, i have the photo tiles with an alpha channel but i have deleted the pictures too far back and i have the default scenery coming through where the photo bgl file once was before creating the transparency, i have all the tiles ready, quite a number, also have been putting alpha channels on them and colour correcting them. should look good when finished, wish the tiles in inverness werent so different in shade, all four seasons in one small area
