• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Sudden FPS loss changing views

This one is a bit baffling as it's only started happening very recently. It happens regardless of which aircraft I use, which airport I am at or whether it is day or night.

I keep getting sudden FPS drops whilst cycling through the views. For example, if I am on 2D cockpit view and have a standard 45fps (setting on nvidia inspector) and then switch to VC view of which I usually have setup looking over the wing using active camera, I notice a sudden FPS drop that is very noticeable and causes a lot of stuttering visually. I might have 45fps in one view then it drops down to like 15fps. This also happens on other views too (not just VC view). When in VC view it might be fine, then switch to 2D cockpit and it starts stuttering, CTRL+S to overhead then back to 2D cockpit will then get rid of the FPS drop but it is an annoying cycle.

What have I installed/changed?

- few changes on my nvidia inspector which I have put to back to my usual settings (no difference)
- FS9Evo (was working fine when I first installed it)
- Ultimate Terrain settings (changed a few settings for Europe/USA/Canada)

Can't think what has caused it

FS9 Evo also has new and I believe unique 3D lights integrated into the autogen. You will need to download a freeware third-party object library to use them. At the moment, some useres experience a framerate hit. The light density is controlled through the autogen slider so you should find a level were it works for you. A set of reduced lamp models is being worked on by a couple of guys - 3D modelling is beyond me.

It sounds like you scenery cache has to refresh with each new view.

It sounds like you scenery cache has to refresh with each new view.

Could be, any idea how to change/edit/check it? I've tried rebuilding my FS9.cfg, made no difference. Also tried removing all FS9 Evo textures and putting back the files in place before hand, didn't make a difference.

Perhaps the bottleneck is above your scenery cache, so it only appears that way. Could you video card be degrading possibly?

Hopefully not the GPU as it is relatively new and doesn't overheat or anything. I have noticed that recently it takes longer to load the textures (usually aircraft) when changing views. Perhaps something wrong in FS9.cfg again?

Edit: It is only really noticeable on the ground or approach, never really at cruising level.

Well, you could eliminate hardware as the cause by testing other high load conditions, such as taxiing a large airport with heavy AI, or even navigating a complex scenery like Kai Tak or Dubai. The changing view issue really sounds more like a pipeline/bottleneck/hardware condition, than one of configuration; to me, but I've never encountered it and am really shooting from the hip, hoping to hit something.

SOLVED IT! Turns out it was the ENBseries mod I had, once disabled FPS would stay high and smooth. No idea how it has taken this long for me to only just realise it was causing an issue though!

Thanks for the help!
