• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Taxi line not aligned with heavy parking

I changed a medium to heavy gate parking, and found the yellow taxi line is no longer in the centre or aligned with the heavy bracket - see attached pic.

What has caused this or how can it be fixed?

Did you remember to change the width of the connector link? If not then it's going to be too narrow...

The width of the connector link is 100 feet which is probably wider than average, but I shall try widening it to see if it makes a difference.

Edit: Widened the connection link to 160 feet, but the line did not move.

Are you sure that the link is connected to the parking spot in ADE?

Have you ran the fault-finder?

I ran the Fault Finder, and found two faults with one of the four parkings I upgraded to heavy - Jetway Distance and Use.

I have tried re-attaching the jetway to one of the other four parking, but the line is still not centred.

Any other suggestions?

If you return the parking spot to its original size does the problem go away?

When I change the parking back to a gate medium (32 feet radius), there is no more heavy brackets for the line to be centred within ... However, the line appears to be unchanged.

So, what does this mean?

I think I need to see the project file. Can you zip up and email me the .ad2 project file and also the bgl file that you have created. Email it to jon AT scruffyduck.co.uk and I will look at it here

I have emailed the zip file to you.

Thanks, Harry

Well I have looked at this in some detail now and the problem is that the oil spot is not aligned with the taxi parking spot. This applies equally to all parking spots in both the stock and modified airports (which you can also check easily enough).

In all cases using ADE linked to FSX to place the user aircraft at the center of parking spots does place it exactly on the center line as expected. In FSX I used Gate 3 Heavy as the start location and the user aircraft is again placed directly over the center line.

The conclusion therefore is that there appears to be nothing wrong with the geometry of the airport and the center line is in the correct position. It appears that the drawing of the spot below the parking spot (and all the others in both the stock and enhanced airports) is off.

I guess this is a phenomena that might bear some investigation but as far as I can tell it is an internal drawing issue in FSX and that it seems unlikely that our tools can influence that.

Thanks Jon for looking into this :)

Is the oil spot drawn by FSX into the stock AFCAD? I tried moving the parking to the right where the oil spot is, but it seems to move with the parking assigned in ADE

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The oil spot should be related to the parking spot so if you move a parking spot the underlying oil and other stuff on the apron should move with it. What is happening here seems to be that that draw is out of sync. I know that changing the heading of the parking spot relative to the joining link can affect whether the oil marks get drawn or not but other than that I don't know of anything to fix this.

I'm not sure I understand your statements regarding re-attaching the jetway and the distance error may be due to gate number/spot confusion especially if you've modified a bgl.

If you haven't already done so, try deleting the jetway and parking spot - completely. Recompile and enter FSX to ensure that the spot is gone.

Then put the Heavy parknig spot back and add a jetway. Sometimes a "reboot" works out the FSX kinks.

Are you refering to a texture file for the AFCAD? If so, where would it be?

I have searched in "\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\ASIA\texture", and there is no texture folder in "\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\scenery\0903\" where the stock AFCAD's .bgl is located.

What you suggested is what I did when I wrote "... re-attaching the jetway ...".
