• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Taxi way lights issue

First I would like to say thank you for such a nice tool.

I use FS9 mdl because of reported FSX mdl issues with the lights.
The issue is that the lights turn of each time I view them from a specific angle.

I would like them to be on at all times when inside the airport area.
What can i do to make that possible?

The effect it self works fine.
Only problem is that on specific angles it turns of and that is no fun at all.

I made a wig wag light as well which has the same issue

Are you using DX10 Preview mode? If so, this is a known issue due to the way DX10 handles BGL_LIGHTs and there is nothing I can do about it. Others have had success by installing Steve Parson's "DX10 Fixer" (which appears to convert BGL_LIGHTs to effects.)

If you are not using DX10 Preview mode, please let me know and I'll investigate.

Hello Don.

That was indeed the case, thanks :)
Any updates coming up which adds new features?
Not that I am in need of any, just asking.

Thought it might be.

As for new features, I am currently working on an update that adds blinking lenses to the wigwag (the lights in daytime by themselves is not adequate) and a general "compile all-in-one" option - that should significantly reduce the FPS-hit. But nothing that's going to fix your issue. The update should become available this weekend.

However, I am also investigating the use of effects as an alternative to BGL_LIGHTs. This would solve your problem and would make AFLT compatible with P3Dv2. Unfortunately, simple substitution isn't adequate since effects are considerably less flexible than BGL_LIGHTs and SEPARATION_PLANEs in combination. So, I've got to experiment with generating special effects "on the fly" that are better suited to my purposes.

Thanks for asking,
Don

Just for purposes of closure, I have been in communication with Steve Parsons, the author of DX10 Fixer. (This issue also affects the custom lighting at my 6 airports)

He advises that DX10 Preview users must install the applicable airportICAO_LightField.bgl included with his DX10 Fixer to overcome this issue. (See Chapter 7 of the DX10 Fixer manual. Other useful light tweaks are described in Chapter 13)
Unfortunately, Steve's DX10 Fixer is no longer generally available. That's not good news for those who want to use FSX's DX10 Preview mode but don't already have his product. However, as regards airfield lighting you may develop with AFLT, there are so many other issues with DX10 Preview mode that, if you don't already have Steve's DX10 Fixer, it's highly unlikely you'd ever want to use DX10 Preview mode anyway.

Hope this clarifies things,
Don

Thanks for your hard work Don, it truly helps all of us.
Makes it even faster to make great addon's in a blast.

As far as my opinion goes I would be far behind my schedule if your AFLT was not available.
My customers are so demanding but then again that is a good thing I guess :)

Thanks and looking for future releases :)
Lights made with AFLT will surely benefit my scenery when it is ready so thanks :)
A work in progress but getting there :)

Now I will work with the taxiway and runway lights the coming days.
