• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Taxiway centreline intersections

Hello, I have been trying to figure out a way I can make centreline intersections look realistic instead of every corner being cut off by a black edge line

Below is a screenshot, hopefully you know what I am trying to do, basically get rid of the black parts that cross over the middle yellow parts.

I have thought about literally cutting the polygon but I am not sure if this is the best way to do it as it may become messy and use up alot of verts. Any other ways to do this?

Regards

I think I got an idea for this.
1. Draw the template for the Yellow Template area and then clone that one to be Black Template area, make it bigger that the yellow one.
2. Draw the line as usual. Lofting in gmax or Sweep in 3dsmax. You need to keep the line available for two time processes, with yellow area and black area.
3. Export each object separately and make the layer in MCX. Let Yellow one higher than the black one.

I think you can get a seamless yellow line over black background by this method.

I did a quick test in 3dsmax and it works like charm. This is the picture from Max.

Nevertheless, the polygons will jump to double. But I guess it doesn't hurt fps much.

Don't know why I didn't think of that! excellent input Jtanabodee! (Tic)

Works like a charm! I'm not fussed about polys as computers these days can handle billions maybe even trillions of them - couple extra thousand will not hurt :) Thanks again!

This should be put on the Wiki!

However, I already had my taxiway centerlines swept and mapped and converted to editable poly, all I literally had to do was select the polys where the taxiway has black border, duplicate - apply taxiline texture and the job was done :)

Here is a screenshot from inside the simulator after using Tic's idea - Perfect result

Glad to hear that you got a good result. The process is not complicated too.
Next project I will do this way.

Hi,

I cannot check this for the time being, but I think Don Grovestein's GPoly editor incorporated in ADE, does the same? If it does, it would even be a lot easier.

Hi,

ADE v 1.60 beta. Groundpoly editor.
If you use the gp editor and add a yellow taxi center line with a dark grey background with a width that is a bit wider than the width of the yellow line, you will get the same effect as you described.

Have you try that Robystar? I would be very exciting to have from that tool!

However after reading the manual, I personally think the line would be like the first picture that Aviasim posted. What we dicussing here can get a different appearance.

Wow.... that's very good. Thanks for the information.
We can change the texture, can't we?
