Ok, given the quantity of supporting circumstances, it remains likely that there is control input detected by the sim. It is my belief that the difference between TcalcX and slewmaster, is the depth of information being provided, such that any slight "creep" remains invisible in slewmaster.
If you substitute mouse movement for joystick input, it stands to reason that the locus of the joystick null zone is impossible to establish. There is no vertical axis. There is only the fact of whether the ball, or worse, laser pointer has stopped tracking.
So, I am not saying your desktop is a grassy field, but is it possibly, dirty? Because if the laser pointer inside a mouse is reading waving blades of grass, or even tripping over bread crumbs, refracting through varnish, or whatever, it is going to be very difficult for it to determine where to actually stop tracking.
