• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Texture Alignment Problem

After UVW mapping some parts I have encountered an alignment problem, I created a texture from the bitmap obtained from lithunwrap & when I applied the material to the parts the items I had painted on the texture sheet are offset to the right, all settings are the same as with previous successful mapping.

The parameters are set as:
Mapping- Planar (both length & width are equal)
Channel- Map Channel=1
Alignment- Z

I would appreciate any help with this.

Here is a screenshot from Gmax.

As you can see, the white paint on the tank is offset too the right or rear as well as the fuel cap which for some reason shows up as green instead of red & can't find a fix.

The above screenshot shows the gizmo position, its close but there is a gap between the gizmo & tank.

Try to move the gizmo up/down until the result looks good. Or find another UVW Map method.

Greg, it's a 35 series, my father used to fly one.

I really want to find an answer to this problem because I don't want to have to align the texture on every part I map.

Apply the original LithUnwrap-generated template to the model and see if it still aligns correctly, 'cos something has shifted.

I have generated a new LithUnwrap template from MD3 files created from the current UVW mapping & have compared it with the original template & they are exactly the same, so it appears that nothing has moved.

Hello

Have you applied a Reset Xform from the Utilities tab? Perhaps you didn't and some transformation in causing some issues. Try it before doing any mapping procedures on each part in your model. :twocents:

Kindest regards,
Sergio.

Robert, here's a pic of the texture.

Sergio, I have not applied a Reset Xform as I have not applied any scale transforms to the parent object which as far as I know is the reason for applying a Reset Xform.

Thanks everybody for your advice in trying to help me solve this problem.

Merry Christmas to all.

I have just done a UVW mapping test of part of the fuselage to see if the mapping problem was unique to the tip tanks but unfortunately it isn't.

Fuselage Map Test.PNG

As you can see there is a misalignment problem, I don't know what's going on as I have never had a problem like this before with any other projects.

I decided to do the same test as above on a previous projects model that I had mapped without any issues, I mapped part of the fuselage & the result was not good, same misalignment problem.:(

Are we talking Max or GMax? Did you create the maps via normal mapping?

Hi Heretic,

I'm using Gmax.

The mapping method I used was, mesh select modifier-UVW map (from the UV Coordinate Modifiers list) & selected the parameters as:
Mapping=Planar
Channel-Map Channel=1
Alignment=Z

I thought I would try the same UVW mapping test in my FS9 Gmax using the same fuselage section & it mapped perfectly with no misalignment, so it must be something to do with my FSX Gmax setup?

As I have not managed to find a fix for this problem, I have resorted to UVW mapping the aircraft parts in my FS9 SDK Gmax & merging the mapped parts into my FSX SDK Gmax & then applying materials.

Check your bitmap format. I normally use Photoshop PSD files, but I've noticed that some other formats will appear displaced in Gmax/Max although they appear fine in the sim.

Have you clicked on View Align?
