• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Texture bleed through, your thoughts?

I have run into a bit of a problem. I was just about to release my airport when a few of my friends went to test the scenery. They found that the underlying AFCAD textures bleed through the ground poly when viewing it at an angle. Therefore I went into my sim and found the exact same problem. I know that in Sbuilder I mad the airport flatten was the same as the original flatten altitude. And my layers in Model Converter X begin at 8 for the ground tiles. I am not sure what else to do.

Have you guys had this problem?

Thanks, Ryan

Hi,

Did you update the AFCAD file as well? Are you sure the elevation is the same as your flatten in that one?

Also when using ModelConverterX did you set it to export for FS2004? By default it will export for FSX which is different code.

Not to sure how to check my elevation in ADE9X but yes my elevation in Sbuilder was copied and then pasted to the new one to make a perfect extension of the flatten.

If you right click an object in ADE, you can select "Edit Object", or "Show XML". If you select "Show XML", the look for the "alt" entry, if this says "0.0F", or If you select "Edit" and it says 0.0 for the elevation, then it is telling you that the object is clamped to the ground at the present elevation; generally this is the Airport elevation. This info could be found in the "Airport Properties"....

Hope that helps.... ;)

I have seemed to fix it by adjusting the layers. Scenery making is very tricky haha.

I get this oddity with alot of sceneries... I almost think its a thing with fs9.... I get it on FlyTampa sceneries as well... It happens when you view in a dc3 which is very angled like alot of tail draggers, and especially when viewing in a helicopter and looking to the left or right when pointed forward/down like most choppers do when accelerating to tip forward to gain forward speed...

I get this effect on any scenery that uses any set of layers for ground polys, they all disappear in an area around the view-port especially when turned up or down and looking around the eye-point...

it doesnt happen all the time... but I do get it to happen in alot of sceneries...

Hi Ryan,

I cannot confirm your observations. But I had a silly experience in my current project (LOWS-X). It took me hours to find the solution for the effect that the ground polygons of one specific layer (I am talking from the ground poly procedure with the FS2002 gamepack) slightly became visible depending on the altitude of the plane.

All parameters in the ASM-file where correct and the sequence of the layers seemed to be fine. But I could not get rid of the problem. Finally I took a look in the GMAX file and surprisingly the z-value of the polygons was negative. I do not know why because during the construction steps I was pretty sure that all polys are located exactly at zero-level. Maybe that during the export I moved them a little bit.
