• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Texture loading issue in MCX

I am sorry to trouble you guys. I am trying to add night landing aids/lights to FSX Boats. I have completed 38 with lights and hard decks for night landings on moving ships using choppers, but I ran into trouble loading HMS Fearless and Intrepid. This is a .dds textured ship, FSX sp2 capable, which shows up fine in FSX. The download is here at cbfsim: cat=2http://www.cbfsim.co.uk/cbfs_lib/index.php?cat=2
I [like others members] try and sort it before asking, but this one has stumped me, as the textures will not load into MCX [thanks Arno for a wonderful tool!]. I know that I will probably end up with a red face, but I cannot see what I have missed - the other ship conversions that I have done, have worked fine.
Charlie.

We want not that, but could be , you have to select the textures in the livery dialog box, check there. :D
This ship is right, have hard surface and even sound , very cool. and congrats for the website, very cool too.

I have my little story as well, I passed through this very same problem, and the very same red face. This hapen because the model have more than one texture folder, that's all.

How do you think you become an expert? By making many mistakes (and trying to remember what you did) :D

Thanks again guys, still learning and still can't export this model - even with no edits. I sent the error message which I do not fully understand. This one with the multiple textures is the only ship that will not export, the others were fine and dandy like this one! Charlie.

Yes. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
What are those green lights on the deck ,effects or what you did with that lights?

Thanks again guys. 3 parts to this item.

The green lights are from a green texture which is part of the model done by A J Weber, [a very good model maker] and it is the Oliver Hazzard Perry Frigate class available from FSshipyards http://www.fs-shipyards.org/index.php?ind=downloads&op=section_view&idev=6. The white lights and Nav lights have been added by me so that the ship can be seen from 3 NM.

The error I get when exporting HMS Fearless is this:
Error:
The process cannot access the file 'D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Boats\HMS Fearless\model.fearless\Fearless.xanim' because it is being used by another process.
There are no other processes running that I can find, so again, I am a bit stumped on this - but I can SEE the textures!! W7 32 bit, Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.50 GHz each, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 4GB ram, PC, Matrox TH2go.

Last one is for Arno. In order to place the lights and approach aids, I need to be able to see the deck after the platform is added [but I can do this last]. I changed to v 1.4 of MCX yesterday and the platforms seem to have lost their transparency. Not a huge drama because as I said, I will just add the platforms last. Charlie - Here is a pic of the landing deck for you [placement colour changed to green and I did try adding an Alpha setting]:

Hi,

I saw the error report. I'll try to reproduce it on my machine later tonight. Hopefully I can fix this bug easily.

Hi,

I fixed the crash. It was caused by an animation in the model, that was not found in the modeldef.xml file. Now that animation is ignored when exporting, but at least it does not crash.

The new development release should be online in around 30 minutes.

Hi,

Let me check what is going on with the platforms, they should be a little bit transparent indeed.

Fixed the problem with the display of the platforms as well now. Will be in the next development release (once again should be online in about 30 minutes from now).

Arno, you are a genius. I have no idea how you did that, but can I say a huge thank you from your thousands of silent developer fans around the world. You sir are second to none. Thanks a million - got work to do!! Charlie.

Fixing the bug was probably just as easy as introducing it somewhere between version 1.3 and now :)
