• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texture Resizing Problems

ERROR: Video is unavailable at the above link or on YouTube (...is it still uploading ?) o_O

Hi Chris:

Apparently the video has now finished uploading (upload speeds are purposely kept slow on most ISP accounts).

What you have shown is very odd. :yikes:

Can you provide a link to a ZIP containing the 3D Model and texture which you were attempting to map onto that face ?

I'm not certain what your situation is with your WiFi versus broadband ISP access, but if you are ever interested, there may be another option to have internet connectivity if you use a 'modern' mobile phone.

Many such phones have a built-in WiFi "hotspot" feature that basically functions as router to provide internet access to specified devices such as a Laptop / Notebook / Tablet / I-Pad etc.

Also, since you have previously mentioned issues with what, IIUC, was a limited data plan size, you could save bandwidth expenditure by using Opera Mini, which via the Opera internet servers, pre-fetches, caches, and compresses web sites before they are routed to your phone, therefore requiring less total mobile phone internet data packets.

This results in MAJOR data bandwidth savings for the phone browser, and apparently somehow, even for use of the WiFi hotspot features on a ex: Laptop screen running at full resolution.

This year they began doing some apparently insignificant data mining IIUC, via the URLs being connected on their DNS servers, to defray costs of operation (just as most ISPs and as Google does on most websites), but if one uses the newest versions of that browser, they do not insert visible ads into web page browsing sequences via Google "Interstitial" or other ad services.

Hope this info might help. :)

This happens to me when I distort or change a texture slightly before projecting, it could be a glitch of Sketchup. For example, I may have a transparency that will be projected to represent a stair rail, but the top rail doesn't exactly line up with the edge of the polygon. If I adjust the texture to align, the consequence will be what's depicted in the video when I try to scale the texture. The way to avoid it is to rotate the model, not the texture, to make these alignments. These days I leave the texture in place, like a giant canvas and I only scale or move it up/down/left/right as necessary. I rotate the entire model in front of the texture canvas until I have all faces textured satisfactorily. If I need an automobile wheel and tire textured, I'll break it off the model, or turn it into a component and duplicate it, then take that part over to the texture sheet, align it, scale it, texture it and then return it to the model - which isn't necessary if I have made it into a component, in which case I simply delete the one I'd placed against the texture sheet. For me this procedure results in the most efficient use of projected texture space with no oddly distorted textured faces.
To solve the mirrored texture issue you recorded, you should be able to move either the yellow or blue pin slightly to bring the mirrored texture into alignment with itself. It will be obvious, moving one direction will make the mirrored image tend to come together and moving the other direction will quickly distort the texture beyond recognition.

Hello,...

In adjusting the the texture,... first adjust the height then the length,... you will have better luck in doing that than try doing the length first...

Hi Chris:

I believe it would be helpful to not only your own project needs, but also to the knowledge base for other Sketchup users here at FS Developer, if you would provide a link to a ZIP containing the 3D Model and texture which you were attempting to map onto that 'Face' shown above. ;)

Thanks for acknowledging the mutual consideration which, IMHO, 'should' accompany getting helpful replies to your questions in this public forum. :)
