Ive been caught up with watching The Expanse on Amazon Prime video. Man, what a brilliant series. Cant believe I didnt know about this.

The realism some of it has is intense. Had me wondering about a flight sim based on something similar.

I love how every sci fi phone has to have a crack in it these days in order to be real. You'd think they have learned how to make them from transparent aluminum or something, but maybe all the obstacles are made out of diamond coated titanium, or floors have quantum gravity. What does that say about someone who never drops his phone? He's not actually living?
This link is perhaps not quite so dramatic as The Expanse, but you should have no problem making yourself a proper sled from which you can expand the known universe, to use with this addon. The site belongs to misho and he also has a really great way to compile and even create scenery mesh.

Realistic space stuff or dramatic space stuff?

Both actually. Great movie sets as well. Not cheap. Tons of nice details and things. It reminds me of Firefly in some ways. They created an accent for instance for the 'Belters' (people that work in the asteroid belt and rings of planets that bring ore and chunks of ice in from space). The accent is pretty much like South Africanner but has some words that are common for them and you have to figure out what in the world they mean. Some of them go over my head and my hobby is linguistics (accents and languages). (Love this stuff).

Dopped my phones quite a few times, but never got the dreaded "spiderweb app" as a result. I'm the luckies guy alive, I guess.

Ah, I was referring to space sims.
"The Expanse" looks like the filler, non-military episodes from Battlestar Galactica, but is probably much better (which isn't hard, considering BSG's lackluster writing from season three onward).

I figure the only thing that's going to be close to a series-like experience is that huge space sim project that must not be mentioned because its creators will make very expensive concept art of it.

Maybe something first person survival-based?
Adr1ft, Tacoma, Space Engineers, Alien:Isolation and the everlasting classic System Shock 2?

Sounds weird but I never droped my phone on the ground.... I remember droping my old Nokia 1100 because of having it in my shirt front pocket and sliping out when bending my body, but after I got my first smartphone... nope, not even once.

So about the Topic... Star Citizen has an interesting mix of Realistic, Cool and dramatic things... you should check some of the videos because the devs are fans of all the space operas we know and love.
The scale of the game is overhelming... this is a tour of one of the medium ships.

The environment looks exactly like The Expanse. Thanks for the heads up!

Dang....! That is one sweet looking ship. The 600i. I will check out some of the videos. That is more like a yacht. That is a ton of design work and really well done. They must have a huge team of designers.

I think they have a 500+ team of people working in the game.
Elite Dangerous is another game that is "finished" and you should check out... you can explore the whole galaxy.

I had Elite Dangerous. I loved it except one single thing... You must play it online and every time I got in, I was shot, wiped out.. I tried so hard to make a basic amount but just kept getting killed by pirates. I quit.

I wonder if they have changed things and you can go in now without being shot up by others? I see they are coming out with 'Chapter Two'. I think I read that last night.

You can play it offline, there is a SOLO mode.

Or you can join a private group that doesn't allow player v player piracy like that, such as the Morbius group. Of course you could still get killed by AI pirates, but that could happen in solo mode as well.

I still had it on a drive. Got Elite Dangerous updated, went in, and there it was... Solo mode. I'll have to relearn the controls again. If only I could edit an INI or CFG file to have zero pirates. I would be happy.

Thanks for the heads up. :)

I just 'looked' through Star Citizen. I loved that new 600i ship. So I looked... my goodness... $435.00 USD for the 600i ship. I think I am in the wrong business. They are reaping huge bucks. How on Earth does someone afford $400.00 for a ship!? Many were in that price range. Goodness.... Man, if they are pulling in that much money, this is a good business field.

Most of the income is leveraged on Chris Roberts' name and reputation. And he's taking an awfully huge risk.

Yup, I support his "vision" but to deliver what he is promissing it's gonna take A LOT of time an development... and many people isn't so pacient...
Anyway... just buy the basic $45 package... the big ships can be earned in-game eventually.
