• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Those darn islands again on SBuilderX (solved)

Better in a separate thread. I was creating a new set of islands following this workflow:

  1. Create big area bigger than my QMID 11's and tag It Hydro Ocean Perennial
  2. Enclose most of the area inside that poly and tag it Exclude All Terrain Items
  3. Draw my islands using poly tool
  4. Using poly tool select the island poly, use Set Hole and select the outer poly (step #1) as the parent polygon and I see the island poly change color and the tooltip no longer says "Select Parent Polygon"
  5. Select the big outer poly (step #1) and with the poly tool do Slice to QMID 11
  6. Remove the excess Hydro polys created by Step #5
  7. Compile and deploy the 000_ (Exclude), CVX_ and _OBX BGL files
The problem is that when I deploy the scenery I only see the big ocean but the whole island is gone, obviously even the default island. Of my scenery I only see the streams, roads and the objects I have placed, I also see the outline of the island but there is no land inside, just water! A smaller island is also filled with water even though part of it has an inner landclass (Tropical Forest) I made as an experiment, the default Landclass should be showing though...

So what is wrong with it? The SBP file is found here. To make it easier to spot the problem without travelling around the FS world I have added a separate ZIP file that you should unpack on your "My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files" folder, these are the FLT, FSSAVE and WX files (erase any subdirectory) so that once you installed the broken scenery you can have the default C172 above it by using the FSX "Load Flight" option and selecting "A Last Scenery Test" which would be at the top of the list. The "last flight" file is here.

Yesterday I spent the whole day dabbing at this problem without success. Today I finally found the solution! This SBuilderX is a bit particular on the way you do things, it is not just the process.

In Step #4 you not only have to be in Polygon mode, it is NOT sufficient to click within the parent polygon (the tooltip will change letting you think it was okay) but you actually have to click at the EDGE of the parent polygon, in addition to that you can verify it has been done right because the hole polygon becomes white. In addition to that if the operation was successful if you use the Poly tool on that same (hole) polygon, it will now give you the option of Set as Outer, if it still says Set as Hole it was not done right!

The "holing" process has to be done PRIOR to slicing to QMID 11 because you cannot "hole" an island polygon to a parent Hydro polygon IF that hole polygon spans across multiple QMID 11 blocks.
