• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Timer Trigger Reset Mission after a Short Period

Hi Folks

I can't seem to do it.

What am I doing wrong?
Leon -
Not reading the text. :D
; Use this tag to identify the max number of missions you will allow to be loaded (default = 50)
;MaxMissions=

Uncomment and add your number.

Hi Folks

Leon -
Does your mission get listed within FSX, (not kiosk).

Comment out the line
folder=

It's not required
unless your mission is stored outwith FSX's folders,
(e.g. different drive or path).

EDIT
Your mission currently doesn't even load in FSX.

Primary cause is -
Your .flt file path is incorrect.

Hint - Spelling

Hi Folks

Leon -
Does it load ?
If so,
sorry about that last edit.

Have you corrected kiosksettings.cfg ?
i.e.
; folder=

Recommend using notepad with wordwrap OFF,
as you might have a spurious carriage return in there.

EDIT -
Did your mission appear in the kiosk listing,
when all the missions were listed ?

Simplest method -
Move your mission to
file.0=

Is it listed now ?

Yes, the mission loads and runs, all the triggers go off.

I have commented the folder line.

Word wrap is now off.

Hi Folks

Leon -
Sorry crossing posts whilst I was editing.

Check my last post again.

I edited the cfg file to this:

Code:
; Use this tag to modify the lentgh of time before Kiosk will time-out (default = 15 minutes)
FlightLength=

; Use the color and label tags to modify the appearance of the fonts used in Kiosk
TextColorRed=255
TextColorGreen=255
TextColorBlue=255
LabelFontName=MS Shell Dialog
LabelFontSize=16
LabelFontBold=0
LabelFontItalic=0

; Use this tag to identify a special background image you wish to use with Kiosk
BackgroundImage=\bkg.bmp

[Missions]
; Use this tag to identify a full path diretory from which to load your unique missions
; Folder=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Missions\Backcountry\landingbuffalo\

; Use this tag to identify the max number of missions you will allow to be loaded (default = 50)
MaxMissions=4

; This list is used to identify the individual missions you want to load. To add more missions,
; simply add another "file.n" to the list, and then put the name of the mission (with the .flt extention)
; to load it.

file.0=landingbuffalo.flt

The former 3 missions still are in the kiosk, and my mission is not showing up.

Hi Folks

Leon -
Have you removed that path yet
from your mission's .flt file ?

Try commenting out as below -
; [ResourcePath]
; Path=

Additional
In kiosksettings
FlightLength=
should probably have a value, or be commented out.

Commented out the resource path thing, and the flight length.

IT STILL DOESN'T SHOW UP IN THE KIOSK!

At this point steam is coming out of my ears.

Hi Folks

At this point steam is coming out of my ears.
LOL

Just a Vista question -
Reopen kiosksettings.cfg from fsxroot.

Does it contain your changes ?

EDIT -
Removed inappropriate info.

Just checked,
and MaxMissions=VALUE
is not honoured if you list specific missions.

i.e. With -

MaxMissions=3

file.0=Vanuatu.FLT
file.1=Mission_Demo_Paris_1.FLT
file.2=Mission_Demo_Wingman.FLT
file.3=Mission_Demo_Paris_2.FLT
file.4=Innsbruck.FLT

All 5 missions are listed.

Yes, the kiosk.cfg shows my changes.
I reopen Kiosk everytime I edit.
What is a carriage return?

Sorry for late reply.

Hi Folks

Leon -
Carriage Return == Newline
Legacy name from typewriters :D

I'd since checked and it doesn't need one.

Try adding some default missions to your list,
different from those in the flights kiosk folder.

e.g.
file.0=Congo.FLT
file.1=Rocket Launch Air Cover.FLT
file.2=Tutorial03.FLT
file.3=Slingload Tutorial.FLT
file.4=Baltic Sea Rescue.FLT

Do those now list in kiosk ?

Hi Folks

Leon -
I've just found a bug
which may explain your problem.

EDIT -
This wasn't a bug,
see my subsequent posts,
and ignore the remainder of this post.

Kiosk is apparently not clearing ram on closing. :eek:

Relaunching kiosk
still displays the old missions listing
even if that missions listing has been changed in kiosksettings.cfg

i.e.
; file.0=JetTruck.flt
; file.1=RedBullSalzburg.flt
; file.2=SwissOuting.flt

; file.0=Vanuatu.FLT
; file.1=Mission_Demo_Paris_1.FLT
; file.2=Mission_Demo_Wingman.FLT
; file.3=Mission_Demo_Paris_2.FLT
; file.4=Innsbruck.FLT

file.0=Congo.FLT
file.1=Rocket Launch Air Cover.FLT
file.2=Tutorial03.FLT
file.3=Slingload Tutorial.FLT
file.4=Baltic Sea Rescue.FLT

Still lists Vanuatu etc.

Will investigate further.

Meantime suggest you try a pc reboot.

Hi FOlks

Leon -
Solved it.

After initial run,
the active KioskSettings.cfg
is now in the folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

EDIT -
Me also guilty of not RTFM'ing. :o

Customizing Kiosk Mode
After running Kiosk mode for the first time, a new file will be created, where [user name] is the account name of the person who installed Microsoft Flight Simulator. This file is:
Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\KioskSettings.cfg

Reason it hadn't clicked before,
is FSX had CTD'd twice from a kiosk launch,
hence hadn't written to the flights folder.

(writes down note "RTFM")
Likewise :D

Good learning experience.

Warning,
just beware when you roll this out at the museum,
that the changes will be in whatever user's account you'd installed from.

For security purposes
that might not be the account profile
that visitors access the sim from.

Ensure the file is in both the fsxroot,
and the visitor's account profile.
