• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Transfering a VC

Hello all,

Just curious, I have tried 5 ways to Sunday to get this done, but no luck.

Can I add a VC panel to another plane?

I have a EMB170 I would like to put the 737-8 panel into, complete with the VC. I know it won't work with just moving the panel folder over. But can it be done through an alias config of some type?

Thanks for any thoughts.

The crudest and simplest way:

FOr FS2004 - no.

For FS-X - *as long as the models have been made according to the FS-X SDK*, it's basically a matter of copying the interior model of one to the other, and of course, the VC section of one into the other (along with the gauges, textures, etc.

Just don't release it like that without proper permissions.

Caveat - some FS-X VCs are tagged so that you can't use them in other than the model they were intended for)

Hmm, so it is possible. This is strictly for personal use.

I copied the entire panel folder from the default 737-800 to the new plane.

I copied the interior model to the model folder and copied the interior line of the model config to the model config in the new plane.

[models]
normal=embraer170
interior=B737_800_interior

I took everything that was in the texture folder of the 73 and put it in the main texture folder of the 170. Didn't want to miss something and figured what was not called for would do no harm just being in the folder.

The gauges in FSX are in a gauge folder so that should not be an issue.

I still have no VC in the 170. What did I miss?

Is the Embraer 170 a real FSX model? I suspect that it's not...

...or, your eyepoint needs to be adjusted. If you pan around, do you see the VC behind you?

Hi Bill,

Just got the another one of your great planes today. Citation X 750. Excellent work. Um, I believe it is. I am not sure. Is there a way to check?

Simple to check. Open the .mdl file in Wordpad.exe and examine the first few words...

FS9 models will have MDL8MDLH in the header.

FSX models will have MDLXMDLH in the header.

MDL8MDLH

So I am out of luck it would appear. Great answers though. I really appreciate it. This place is great to come to and get a straight answer quickly.

Let me see if I have a step by step down for future reference.

1. Make sure you model is an FSX model.
2. Copy the interior model to the model folder and add the appropriate line to the model config.
3. Move the required textures to the main texture folder. Gauges should be okay in the gauges folder in FSX.

Am I missing anything?

You are right, I haven't seen much FSX aircraft yet. Most aircraft downloadable as FSX are indeed FS8 aircraft with FS80 instead of a MakeMDL - FS90 tag.
