• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Transparency Issues in GMAX

Hello Fellow Simmers,
I have been struggling for the past few days to solve a transparency issue and I will try to explain the situation. I created a half cylinder as an Atrium for the top of a building. It is using 2 sided, default transparency set to TRUE and when in MCX the onside (Left) looking through to the opposite side it looks OK except the ends are totally transparent. Then rotating the model to the opposite side the onside looks OK but on other inside is total transparent. I have attached the zip file that contains the .gmax file, the texture and the .mdl. That should show the problem better than I can explain. It acts like there is a cancelation effect. The Z-Test Alpha is set to 46.xxx and the Alpha Test Mode is set to Greater Than.
Set Default Transparent to TRUE.
I am hoping there is a resolution to correct this but if not it is only a minor issue and can be overlooked.
Thanks for any help or advice that anyone can offer.

Hi Tom, I may not have explained the issue well enough. The transparency is not associated with any scenery outside the model but the inner side of the model (MDL) itself. Nothing outside of the model disappears. I have problems making screenshots that are small enough to see the effect. Opening the mdl in the zip file with MCX the problem is readily seen.

Richie S.

Edit: I was able to make some screenshots of the situation.

It may very well be that you will be better to clone the inner part of the half-cylinder, flip its normals and apply the texture there, rather than using a double-sided material

Is Z-write alpha checked. If not, try that first.

hcornea, Thanks for the reply. Your suggestion has been tried but with the same results. Z-write alpha is checked. It appears to be that one side is canceling the opposite sides effect. It may be exceeding the capabilities of the graphics rendering.
