• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,
I am converting FSX to FS9. In FSX I can have tunnel under the taxiway. I was wondering if it works also in FS9. I tried that under lay airport but it didn't work out. No tunnel is visible.

I think in FS2004 you would have to use a flatten to lower the ground and then fill the hole with a 3d model.

Sorry about that. I might forget to paste the link.
We have discussed this quite a lot. It might make you confuse with the discussion.
If you want to make a tunnel, you need to make another airport at different level of height. It is called overlay airport. The different height will be the tunnel floor and you need to make 3d object to cover the defect. It is quite difficult to do a perfect match to the rest of ground poly. If it is a bridge, it will be easier to do (the second link).

I think it is possible but..............
I have to get through a lot of trouble.
Please see this picture.

The terrain will be quite a big hole. I try to make terrain in Gmax and export to be FS9 mdl (not ground poly). It is quite nice to look. But there is a lot of flickering here and there. Terrain in FS9 cannot be a high resolution like FSX, so the defect is large and random jagged edges. I have to make lines and asphalt in FS9 mdl as well and it has to be layer by z-bias. I need to make a platform of the terrain to make the airplanes can move over it. OMG. It is quite hard to make a perfect match to the terrain defect.
I give up since it is not quite worth to do.

Some painting over the texture to make an illusion might be a better plan. The real tunnel might rock the boat more than anything. The complications of it does not worth the trouble.
