• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

Did you install the SDK itself correctly (so did you install the SDK version that belongs to Acceleration)? Without that the addons will not work.

I have installed the acceleration sdk yes, but i recently realised i do have an addon; just flight traffic so i'll try and update that and see if it works

EDIT: I have updated traffic to sp2 but it still won't work

Hi,

I guess you have read all this already, but try these things:

  • double check that all paths in the dll.xml file are correct, if you did not install FSX and the SDK in the detail folders you will have to edit them
  • Make sure that all the plugins are set to disabled is false, so that they will appear
  • double double check that the SDK version matches the FSX version you use

You need to describe step-by-step what you've done. Evidently you've missed a step somewhere in the process, but no one can help without much more detail.

well first I installed the deluxe edition version, then I cjanged the dll.xml file, this didn't work but I then found out there was an acceleration sdk so I installed that. I have checked the xml file and they point to the right files also the disabled sections are set to false. I have run config.exe several times. And I then found out that there is a sp2 version of traffic so I installed that. But It said something about installing again and if I try that I get an error message although it should be installed.

If you have only installed FSX Deluxe and have not installed FSX SP1, FSX Acceleration Pack, OR FSX SP2, then you MUST use the original SDK from the FSX Deluxe DVD or at MOST the SDK SP1a version.

The version of the SDK installed MUST match the version of the simulator.

The Wiki entry has a "chart" that makes this point very clear...

Hi Folks

jimbobd -
If you've followed the Wiki instructions,
the SDK would be working.

Specifically did you disable the addons - 6.2 dll.xml ?

Please post your dll.xml
Ensure you wrap it in CODE tags, (# button above).

By the way I know there is no capitals in my program files, that's because when i first made the file on my second hard drive i forgot to put them in

Hi Folks

Jimbobd -
Please answer the question posed above.

Did you totally disable the addon "just flight traffic" ?

Did the tools menu then display ?

If so look at your Justflight folder,
and check for an old version of traffictoolbox.dll.

Hi Folks

Jimbobd -
If so look at your Justflight folder,
and check for an old version of traffictoolbox.dll.

Check there is no 'Justflight' folder in your FSX root folder.
If so delete it, and all content.

Re-test by launching FSX.

Please ensure you answer all questions.

1)
Are you shutting down FSX,
then restarting it between each test ?

2)
Just to clarify your expectations -
The 'Tools' menu
is only displayed on the FSX 'in-flight' menu,
it will not appear in the FSX GUI.

Please give your path to FSX.
Please give your path to the SDK.

3)
After installing,
did you manually move one or more of these,
either -
to another folder ?
or to another drive ?

If yes to any, please detail.

Hi Folks

Jimbobd -
What OS are you using ?
Are you installing from an Administrator account ?

Please open your fsx.cfg in a text editor.

Look for the [Trusted] section
find the 3 tools entries,
these may appear multiple times, (one for each SDK version).

These are the entries for mine.

Code:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\Object_Placement.dll.LONGSTRING=1
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll.LONGSTRING=1
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll.LONGSTRING=1

Where LONGSTRING is a 'meaningless' alphanumeric string.
The final value should be =1

Is it ?
If not, change it to 1.

Fire up FSX.
Do the tools now display ?

You cannot NOT have an fsx.cfg file somewhere, as FSX simply won't run at all without it!

C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

is where it is located for Vista32 users.
