• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Unwanted water using resample.exe

Hi all, this subject has come up before but I am a bit denser than most and didn't get much from the previous replies. I am trying to use resample.exe to put in a fairly small phototerrain section at an airport. After a ridiculous amount of time I got things lined up enough to correct the problems with an AFCAD but found a large water section around my scenery.

When I try to adjust the size of the cell area it just gets smaller on one side until the resample only generates 2-3 tga files and when I check in FS( these are not visible anyway.

The previous posts indicated I should change my source photo to one that is the size of the LOD cell in question. How do I determine the size of the photo resample wants me to use? Can I use my present bitmap and simply add blank alpha to the edges to make it the right size? That sounds wasteful to me as I was trying to model the smallest area possible to reduce any potential frame-rate loads bit if that's what it takes . . .?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi John,

Which FS version are you working with?

Hi John,

When using the Fs2004 resample the alpha channel of your image becomes water by default. If you want it to be transparent you should place your photo with VTP polygons (SBuilder for example uses this approach). As far as I know that is not possible when using resample.

In the FsX resample it is possible, you can now have water mask channel and a blend channel in your images.

Arno, the alpha channel (black area on the sample) seems ok when rendered in extended bitmaps. I think now that the problem (According to the forum and other sources) is that I am not locating the image in the northwest corner of a cell. My question then is 'how do you know?' I have tried several programs, even purchasing Terrabuilder, but they all indicate only that you must fill the entire cell. None seem to be able to tell you where the cell is or how large the image needs to be. I downloaded CellGrid2004a but was unable to get it to show me anything (no grid visible). I've seen people do this so I know it's possible. I also notice not too many people do it and now I think I know why. Any suggestions?
