• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Help files for GMax are a separate download.

I actually own a copy of the gmax Bible by Kelly Murdock. It's currently on sale from Amazon for a modest $29.99. It's a terrific resource and I'd count it as one of the top five things for flightsimulator I've spent money on...

Although a bit dated, there's even an entire chapter devoted to FS2002 modeling! Most of the actual modeling techniques carry forward to FS2004 and FSX modeling as well.

A CD with sample files and tutorial files is included as well.
 
Gmax seems as friendly as a pack of rats with toothache, but in reality it's the near-vertical learning curve that's the problem - there's an enormous amount to learn.

Persevere and you are rewarded with the most capable modelling tool available for a free download - ever! :cool: The further up that learning curve you climb, the more amazing the view! :D
 
You are absolutely right, the learning curve is very steep and on top of that computer graphics is such a vast domain...well it's a profession.

However I maintain that the interface is as friendly as !$#!%&&! and I'm polite :D
Some settings don't seem to save on exit. The objects manipulation with the mouse are giving me carpel tunnel. Even that little hand to drag the menu down on the right side creeps me out. Ok, I'm done fussing for now but I could go on LOL.
 
If you think the Gmax interface is unfriendly then you obviously have not tried working with Blender. Blender makes Gmax look extremely user friendly and logical in the 3d interface department.
