• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum

Hello every one I am glad to be one of the members of this forum
and i want to thank mr jon the adminstrator for helping me to register
and i want to thank mr arno for his help for every one asking and the other staff :)

I have small problem in the gmax and realy i got alot of good ideas for dealing wiht gmax and CAT after reading the posts of your forum

my problem is the upside down with the objects exported from gmax to fs2004
I have followed your Tutorials and doing good with them but in this case i do not know what to do :

for example if i creat a box and export it in fs9 it will be upside down
but if i rotate it before exporting it and after that export it it will be ok and in right position

I hope my problem is clear for you I need help how to fix this problem or what is the right settings before i start working in gmax

thank you very much for all of you and sorry if you find any mistakes in my language

Hi,

What do you exactly mean with upside down? Maybe you can post a screenshot. Because the object should be exported as it is in GMax.

Two things come to my mind here:

You mention animations. If you have transparent objects and animation together, parts of the object can be displaced.

If you use the mirror button in GMax, your object can be exported inverted (inside-out).

But I am not sure if that is what you are experiencing.

Welcom mr arno thank you for your reply I really appreciate it
Sir what i mean it both as static object or animated
here are the pictures :

o1.jpg

in this picture i export it as it is and see it in fs9 upside down

in this picture after rotating the object it is in the right position

i may get used to rotating them every time but when i tried to make animation for a jetway
and rotate it the bones came out away from the jetway
and here my test for some cars of ground services i made them but i had rotated all of them before i export them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3pNx5TNbC4

and my steps for putting them in fs :
mdl to bgl by using LibraryCreatorXML
and putting them by ez-scenery

all what i need how to export them without rotating ?

Uh oh. If we're talking FS2004, then Skin/Bones animations are not supported.

With regard to the "upside down problem":

If you have used a mirror tool, or have a translation applied elsewhere in the model, the exporter will produce different results to what you are seeing in Gmax.

Try Hierarchy | Reset Transform
Hierarchy | Reset Transform

See what effect this has on your model

You could also Apply a Reset Xform modifier and see if this helps.

Hi,

Try exporting a simple object without bones and see if it exports OK. If so, then that may be your problem...

the problem was from :

makemdl.cfg

===========

[Options]
Keep=1
NegateZ=0
Optimize=0

I have changed the value of Negate from 0 to 1

[Options]
Keep=1
NegateZ=1
Optimize=0

and now it is working ok
thank you all for replying my posts and I really appreciate taht

Odd, most of us don't have to do that...

But if it works for you, do it!

Since I use MakeModel/Model Commander for aircraft, I long ago set Negate-Z=1 as the default.

Since I use the MakeMDL.cfg file for scenery, I set up Negate-Z=1 in that file when I first installed it.

I don't have that set and my objects (both scenery and aircraft using MDL Commander and Middleman) turn out just fine. Odd indeed...

Tom, run the MakeMDL.exe (Middle Man v1.3), click on the Options tab, then see if NegateZ has a check mark next to it. ;)

That could be possible indeed. But my scenery objects do not run through Middleman nor MDL Commander and I don't have Negate-Z = 1 in there, just Crash=0, as I remember...

I'll recheck though.
