• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Using the Ground Polygon in ADE

Hi,

I've done these types of polys in the past and I usually go around the edges using the Add Aprons tool but it takes so much time, and it's not easy getting both sides of the edges if you try to use the same polygon over a large area. Here's what I'm referring to:

I was wondering if there's a way to draw one large polygon and then using another tool to cut through the areas where the grass shows through. I've noticed in the Ground Polygon Editor there's a main texture named "Transparent." Does that make the polygon transparent so that what's below it shows through? I've tried it but I couldn't get it to do that.

To get an apron to be transparent, select it and press Shift O multiple times. To get it opaque again press the O key multiple times.

The way to create a GP with one large polygon is to use a program like Blender, Sketchup, GMAX, or 3DS Max to create the polygon and then use ModelConverterX to convert it to a ground polygon.

Sorry, Ken. ADE-GP does not support the type of operation you describe.

Creating big airport is a lot of work. I seriously doubt creating a large texture and then cutting holes in it would be any less work or that it would provide satisfactory results given the size limit on textures and the precision necessary to get the lines where you want them.

One use for transparent textures would be to put a border around an existing ground image

Oh, another question I have is that is it possible to change the layer priorities of the polygons using the Add Aprons tool? For example, asphalt has a higher priority over concrete. But is it possible that I can change it so that the concrete have a higher priority over the asphalt using the Add Aprons tool? If so, how do I do that?

Ken.
