V2.1.05 will not compile

I have been using Ver 1.6.31 and it worked just fine.
I updated to Ver 2.1.04 and it refused to compile because my path was not a valid format, even with long traffic file names.

I have just installed Ver 2.1.05.
It now accepts my save path for the traffic file, it reports that the compile was successful, but it is not in the save folder, or anywhere else.

I would appreciate some help please.

My system:
Windows7 64bit.
FSX Acceleration.

Sorry, It did save it to world\scenery.
I tried again by selecting my save folder, but it still went to world\scenery.

I edited and saved the AIFP.ini with this line:
Last Compile To Folder=C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X Addon Programs\AI_FlightPlanner\TrafficFiles

Once again it saved to world\scenery and changed the ini file back to the default world\scenery.

Thanks

Lyn.

You aren't allowed by Win7 to write files into any sub-folder of ..\Program Files (x86).

However, both Vista and Win7 set up a special folder for programs to save data:

C:\ProgramData

As a matter of practicality, I long ago decided to not install FS or any of the tools into the "default" ..\Program Files or ..\Program Files (x86) paths at all!

Instead, I installed FS and FS Tools into their own unique paths, such as:

D:\FS9
D:\FSX
D:\FS Tools

With this method, I never encounter any "permission issues" at all. :D

Thnaks, Bill.

Spike, AIFP defaults to scenery\world\scenery for traffic files. If you want to save elsewhere, uncheck the checkbox near the top of the compile dialog and enter the path top where you want the traffic file saves. The advice I gave a user last week to set a value in AIFP.ini was to addess a very specific issue -which is fixed in 2.1.05.

I tried again by selecting my save folder, but it still went to world\scenery.
I have just tried all the ways I can think of to save a traffic file to a different folder after first saving to scenery\world\scenery and my save was always to the selected folder. How did you select the "save folder"?

Don

As a clarification/addition to what I wrote earlier regarding "permission issues..."

You are of course able to "write" files into both FS9 and FSX folders and sub-folders even when installed to the "default" ..\Program Files or ..\Program Files (x86) folder structures, because their installers automatically set the permission and security conditions for such.

However, I've lost count of the number of times that problems have been encountered by folks who do use the "default" installation paths for FS9 and FSX when running under Vista and Win7. WinXP was far more tollerant and less restrictive with permissions.

Thanks for your replies.

Bill,
I am new to Win7 and I am still feeling my way around the new OS. I will be more careful in future.
This problem only happened since I upgraded to Ver 2.1.04, Ver 1.6.31 saved OK. All I did was to overwrite the old version.

Don,
I selected my save folder exactly as you said, I tried several times.
I was trying to save it to your "\AI_FlightPlanner\TrafficFiles" folder as I always have. I only edited the ini file to see what would happen.

I could move AIFP outside the Program Files (x86) path and see if that fixes it, but I would like to know if it is something that I have done.

Lyn.

Don,

I've tried every way I can think of, and it always works for me. Please tell me step by step, what you did and what you entered where.

Don

I have just created this traffic file and saved it [Traffic_TEST_FSX.bgl] to the default world\scenery, and tested it.

Aircraft_TEST.txt
AC#70,114,"AI-HTAI Cessna 152 VH-BFT Royal Aero Club Jandakot WA"

Airports_TEST.txt
YGAW,S34* 35.81660',E138* 43.25720',180
YPPF,S34* 47.60000',E138* 37.98330',56

Flightplans_TEST.txt
//FSXDAYS=FALSE
AC#70,BFT,50%,24Hr,VFR,10:20,10:46,10,R,0,YGAW,11:30,11:56,10,R,0,YPPF

Next I opened Traffic_TEST_FSX.bgl from world\scenery, into AIFP and:

Double clicked the flightplan in the "Flight Plan List" box.
Went to Files- Compile Traffic File and Save.
In the compile box I unchecked save to world scenery.
Clicked the select button and navigated to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X Addon Programs\AI_FlightPlanner\TrafficFiles

Noted that "Traffic_TEST_FSX.bgl" was already in Traffic File Name, Add FSX was checked, Sequence Flight Plans was checked.
Then Clicked Compile.
The Completed Successful message displayed for a few seconds.

The bgl was updated in the world\scenery folder and did not appear in the AI_FlightPlanner\TrafficFiles folder.

I don't think I missed anything.

Lyn.

Sounds right. I'll give it another try in the morning.

It's not morning yet, but I thought I would give it a try.

I can find no way to save to Scenery\world\scenery if that checkbox is unchecked and a valid path is entered into the traffic path textbox - either by using the Select button or manual entry.

You said you double-clicked on the flight plan. Why did you do this? What did you expect to happen? Did it happen? Does it make a difference whether or not you do this first?

I presume the full procedure was undertaken from the FP Editor Panel, i.e., you didn't switch to the Main Panel part way through.

While I don't see how it could play a role, please send me a copy of your AIFP.ini file so that I can start from the same point as you.

Don

I can verify that 2.1.05 has compile issues. I downloaded the full version rather than update my old one. Collected airports and saved airport dat. Wrote a simple FP and tried to compile. "Scenery/world/scenery" unchecked. "Sequence Flight Plans for best AI Performance" checked. Tried to compile to Traffic Files folder in root AIFP folder. AIFP didn't like my "test" name and wanted to put "Traffic" in front of it. OK. New file name Traffic_test. Hit compile. Compile successful. No BGL in Traffic Files. BGL went to Scenery/world/scenery with the name Traffic, not Traffic_test.

If I uncheck "Sequence Flightplans........"then I can compile to where ever I want. But the name is always "Traffic", not "Traffic_test".

My rig: Vista, UAC off, FSX on G:,AIFP in Downloads folder.

Bob

Bob, I've found and fixed the problem with the file name. But I still can't get it to save in scenery\world\scenery without asking it to - with or without "Sequence ..." checked. It's got to be dependent obn timing/order of events.

Please tell me the exact sequence of events that causes it to save to S\W\S unintentionally, from the time you click the 'Compile and Save Traffic File menu item.

DOn

Don,
Yes, I was in the FP Editor Panel.
No reason to double-click the flight plan, I just tried it to see what happened, it made no difference.
Other than this problem it works just fine, thanks for a great program.

Lyn, I still have not been successful in duplicating the issue. But, I have found something in the code that I suspect might be causing it. Please download this file and use it in place of your current aifp2.exe and tell me if the problem remains.

Don

Ok, Don, here is the order. And something new.

Reload test FP
Select "Compile Traffic File and Save"
Uncheck "Save to S/W/S"
Browse to desired folder. This is in AIFP on a different drive than FSX.
Hit Compile
Compile successful
Traffic bgl not in desired folder, but rather in S/W/S.

Something new; the name of my FP was "test". When I saved the FP, the FP part of it was saved as "Flightplans_test_Flightplans.txt. As it should be.
When I reopened it in AIFP, and tried to compile, The traffic file name that came up in the compile box was "Traffic_test_Flightplans.bgl". And this was the name of the file created in S/W/S. An original file does not compile with the proper name. A reloaded file does compile with a proper name. I know you said you fixed this. Just thought I'd throw it in.

Bob

I have tried the new exe file with limited success, I'm short of time right now but I will try again in the morning.

I am also experiencing something similar to what bobbyjack found.

Lyn.

In the first case, you saved text files. In the second case, you compiled the file. For compiles, AIFP will always suggest using a prefix of "Traffic_". If the file that was loaded is a bgl file whose name starts with "Traffic" or a text file whose name starts with "Flightplans", AIFP will strip-off that standard prefix and repalce it with "Traffic", which appears to be just what you see.

BTW, Bob, are you still using 2.1.05 or 2.1.05a that I sent you yesterday?

Don

PS: Bob or Lyn, what is the state of the Save to S\W\S checkbox and what is in the textbox immediately below it after the erroneous save to S\W\S, please? Also, do you have both FS9 and FSX installed or only FSX?

Oops, didn't see your file. I can test in a few hours.
S/W/S box unchecked.
Path is to a folder in AIFP. This path works if "Sequence ..." is unchecked.

Bob

Oops, didn't see your file.
Thought that might haev been the case.

There is no way the Resequence checkbox could affect the destination folder path directly. It is possible, however, that it triggers a series of events that does.

If 2.1.05a desn't work, what I'd like you both to do is rename your AIFP.ini file (doesn't matter what the new name is) and try again. This will effectively create a new installation.

Thanks for your perseverence.

Lyn, if you send me your e-mail address (mine is in the readme), we can take this off-line and I can provide you with test versions directly.
Don
