• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Various Autogen annotator questions for beginner

Hi everybody,
If you can help point me in the right direction with the above, I would appreciate it:

1. there appears to be hundreds of standard FSX objects that aren't in the standard AutogenDescriptions.xml file. Is this correct? If so, how to include the other standard objects in my sceneries?

2. I am competent at taking a geo-referenced ground photo and rendering a BGL with a water and blend class using Resample.exe. Is there anyway to use Annotator to define an exclusion polygon? How? The problem is the FSX shorelines can be extremely simplified and I can have waves breaking in the middle of a land area (near the shore).

3. After I create a BGL using Resample, is there any way to define roads using Annotator? Is there any free graphical alternative to Annotator for adding roads to my BGL?

4. Is there any problem that can allow me to define a road graphically from my BGL and perhaps allow export as an AGN file to get my roads into FSX?

5. How do you use the Extrusions.xml file in the Autogen source XML folder of Autogen SDK?

6. There are other XML files under the "Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit" folders. Are any of these useable by Annotator?

I would really appreciate your help on the above as I have been able to use some seriously high res (xdim = 2.1E-06 and better) to make scenery that I look forward to sharing.
Cheers, A=)

Hi,

1. there appears to be hundreds of standard FSX objects that aren't in the standard AutogenDescriptions.xml file. Is this correct? If so, how to include the other standard objects in my sceneries?

I am not aware of this. There are many more 3D objects in FSX, but these are custom objects only used on one specific location.

No, you would need to use a tool like SBuilderX to make terrain excludes. Annotator can only do autogen objects.

3. After I create a BGL using Resample, is there any way to define roads using Annotator? Is there any free graphical alternative to Annotator for adding roads to my BGL?

No, for roads you would need a tool like SBuilderX again. Be aware that roads you make will never show up on top of your photo scenery, but they can be used for the traffic.

4. Is there any problem that can allow me to define a road graphically from my BGL and perhaps allow export as an AGN file to get my roads into FSX?

I don't understand this question, but maybe my answer to 3 helped already?

5. How do you use the Extrusions.xml file in the Autogen source XML folder of Autogen SDK?

That file seems to contain information for the extrusion bridges that can be made with BGLComp. Also I think it contains some definitions used for the normal autogen houses (e.g. roofs). But I don't think you can use it in Annotator directly.

6. There are other XML files under the "Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit" folders. Are any of these useable by Annotator?

Don't know that.
