• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

$VCpanel texture

Testing of the latest MCX, 1.9 dev and 1.8 stable has shown the material slot for assigning the $VCpanel texture will add a file extension on export. I've only texted FSX exports. The sim will not display gauges when the file extension is applied.
I have checked stable 1. 7 and this doesn't happen. I believe I've got my ducks in a row, but can't swear to it, I'm just a tinkering hobbyist.
Regards and thanks for your consideration.

Let me check, sounds like a bug that might have got in somehow.

Hi,

Can you let me know what workflow you use when you see the issue? I tried to reproduce it by loading an interior model and exporting it to FSX MDL format. But if I then load it again the VC textures do not have an extension. So I can't reproduce this behaviour yet, but maybe I use the work workflow.

I used dev 1.9 to import a FS9 model then export each exterior and interior models to FSX. I've made sure the VC panel part of the interior that contains the $texture was assigned correctly without a file extension and that the part was set to transparent.

These are the same steps have used with the stable 1.7 without issue. I thought I was careful before crying wolf. I'm still learning to use this powerful tool and my methods are more shotgun than methodical. I also used the exported interior model alone to reset the $VCtexture without a file extension but in the sim and on re-import the file extension was added. Not sure if it matters but, I have imported FS9 models both with the aircraft.cfg and the mdl file and didn't see any difference in how the vc texture was handled.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. Understand your working more important issues and improvements.

Hi,

I just tried with a FS2004 aircraft as well. I loaded the FS2004 MDL, then I exported the interior model to a FSX MDL file. But even in that case I do not see the extension being added to the VC texture. It still shows up without.

Where do you see the extension added? When you look in the material editor or somewhere else?

I see the extension added in the material editor. And, the gauges don't show in sim. It is not added in stable 1.7. And the gauges show in sim.

And does it happen with any model?

Like i said I can't reproduce it, so that makes it hard to see why this can happen.

Well this is a little embarrassing. Short answer is no. Longer answer: even the current model is working as expected. I lost track of some of the many changes to a given workflow that I use depending on the model. The only thing I can think of at this point that might have started this, is I exported the fixed parts of the interior model to blender to make modifications and maybe that changed the VC panel someway that I didn't catch. Not sure what I did except cry wolf.

One reason that I like MCX is that it has greatly expanding my understanding of modeling for all the sims and my enjoyment of the hobby. Plus it helps the 7 decades old brain focus.

Thanks for your consideration and sorry for the false alarm.

Glad to hear you figured it out. No problem for the false alarm, that way we all learn something new.
