• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Version 1.39 Feedback

Regarding the approach code for an ILS, if you intend to have a graphical image of this does that mean that the waypoints can be moved / dragged to new positions the same as other objects in ADE? or am I expecting somethings to be just too easy for me?:)

I believe you can drag them now ;) you can also place them exactly by editing the coordinate data. The only thing that would change with the drawing of the approach is that the drawing would change with the re-location of the way points

OK. Thanks Jon. I hadn't opened up the approach mode screen far enough to see the waypoints.

Go to Lists > Waypoints and select the way point you are interested in. It will be centered on the display and you can edit or move it there.

Keep in mind if you move (drag) a T_Waypoint you can very easily distort the approach code draw in the GPS receiver. You will get all kinds of circles and lines going in directions you do not want when looking at the lines in both the pre and post load of the .dll processing scheme.

Here's a simple one. Many of the thumbnails in the "Add Library Object" window are not in the 1.39 ver. The GUID is there but not as many thumbnails. For example, Category/building/ampitheater. No thumbnail. There was in 1.37. Do I need to do something that I haven't?

Bob

Bob

you can copy all the Thumbs in v1.37 to Thumbs in v1.39.
or you could just point:
Tools/Library Object Manager/thumbnail in v1.39
to the thumbnail folder in v1.37

Ray is correct. You need to set the path to thumbnails in 1.39 so that it is the same as that in 1.37. ADE only ships with a few thumbnails. The rest are in the big thumbnail pack which I guess you downloaded for 1.37

How do I include Vor?

Can someone help me to understandhow to include a vor as the IF for an ILS approach? Many thanks.
Gelowims

A VOR is not normally a entrance point (IF) for a ILS Approach. That is not to say it cannot be done but a VOR is normally a entrance point to a Transition that leads to the IF which is a T_WAYPOINT.

Does your Airport already have the VOR or is it a VOR that you have to add?

Are you working from a proper approach chart that shows a VOR as the IF statement for the ILS approach?

Not sure if this has been noted. During my development using ADE1.39 with my Cuban Airport the shape help gets distorted shapes during rotation alignment. Same also occurs for airport object placement. I had to break out whisp placer. One ? i have is what feature do I use just to flatten out the autogen if I want to keep the default textures and topograghy if I dont want to use the mask for better blending of airport enviroment.

I'm not sure I understand - can you please post some screen shots showing the problem?

All of the helper shapes and generic objects work without distortion both by dragging the rotation handle and when rotating the grid using <Shift> mouse wheel.

Edit. Jon, helper shapes and Generic objects are displayed in the Approach Mode view:

Jon: While working on KIAD's fourth runwway (1L-19R) approaches, I noticed ALL of the other runway approach altitudes were zeroed. Not sure what happened but I never modified the other runway approaches or altitudes. Also, it was all of the approaches for the other 3 runways not one or two - a little suspicious.

I also noticed the shape poly type land class showing in the approach mode.

We saw this probelm once or twice during beta but then could not replicate it for every airport. Something is zeroing out the approach altitudes at certain airports only.

At the moment I can't replicate the zero approach altitude problem.

On land class polys in approach mode I will fix that

I am working to find the problem. You can use Jon's SDE utility to open a stock KIAD and look at all the approach altitudes in the airport headers that FSX used. You can then place them back into your approach code.

Well so far so good.
Finally had a little time to start building a fictional airport on a small Island just NNE of Visby Sweden. Everthing seems to be working as normal. Havent' gotten to the ILS part yet but everthing seems good up to this point.

Ok If you look at this image you'll see the object in placeing is shaped square default. However when i rotate it malforms to a near trapazoid shape. Ive demonstrated useing a node line showing the malformation on rotation of objects.

Jon: I hope you don't mind a few questions.

1. While in approach mode, if I create a new T_WP the dialogue box indicates (with a red exclamation point) that the WP already exists in the region. This is the case for any WP I add...even my name :-) Is this correct? I would think the warning would only show if you are actually duplicating (second time around).

2. Also, is there a way to insert a leg into an approach? I ask because several times I created the wrong leg type and I was required to delete the string of legs and start over.

3. While in approach mode, when I create new approach legs or make changes to existing legs I'm not always given the opportunity to save my work.

4. Why don't the existing VORs show up in Approach mode? One example is KIAD. I can't see (graphically) MRB or CSN.

Thanks,
kagazi
