• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

MSFS20 Vertical flying cars at bridge

Hi,

I have made a bridge and now happen crazy things , see this video..

It seems that one street under the bridge is not connected and the cars are floating at this point up. The second smaller street under the bridge is not involved. Any idea to fix this? I have seen this bug also at other places with standard bridges from MSFS.

An other point is the ugly road texture under the bridge, is there any way to delete this?

Where is it (Geographic coordinates, please) ?

Is it a custom 3D model, or was it instead placed from the default MSFS SDK objects library pick-list ?

Did you place ex: a road or other polygon type on top of the bridge to "harden" it ?

Did you inspect BING imagery in SBuilderX with a LOD-13 / QMID-15 terrain quad grid to see if the local quad "breaks" / "clips" Traffic poly-lines at the point in question ?

I see no reason in the FSX legacy CVX vector QMID-15 quad grid boundary mechanism for why MSFS would 'clip' a Traffic poly-line at that bridge location.

AFAIK, OSM data was some- or all- of the source data used for roads in MSFS 2020; perhaps this may be inspected for possible 2D *.SHP geometry issues ?

Perhaps as well, the texture image material and Road / Collision material UVW mapping in Blender might need to be checked ? :idea:


PS: Some would-be end users may object to being required to register at web sites such as https://flightsim.to or https://www.nexusmods.com/ etc. as they do not wish to disclose info that may be distributed to additional 3rd parties.

Why require registration unless info is regarded as having a value if sold; at best, it pays a bandwidth bill, ...but a PayPal donation link is a better idea, IMHO.

If you wish to attach a copy here or at a secure free download site such as the https://1drv.ms URL used for your video linked above, of pertinent data, perhaps we may be more ready / willing / able to offer more help troubleshooting this. ;)

I have downloaded (without a need to register) your EDRK_patch linked above, and have some questions regarding the 3D model.


Are you using a semi-automated capture of geometry from imagery used as source data for a Blender 3D model ?

It looks as if shadows cast from bridge pillars have been inverted, then 3D modeled in the Horizontal plane of the bridge roadway structure.


IIUC, if only 'hidden' within the 3D model, rather than fully removed, this may confound Road / Traffic surface material mapping.

One might wonder if the SDK does not tolerate discontinuities in (sur-)Faces mapped with Road / Traffic surface materials. :scratchch

first many thanks for your great effort to try to solve the problem 👍:)

Very strange this shadows, I have no idea where they come from. The model is made completely new. For testing I delete all up to the road, unfortunately it happens the same.

Second try with a complete new model only consists out of a plane with road material. This works. Ok I have to find out what is going wrong with the road in my model :eek:

I do not yet work in Blender, but if the Blender exporter forces a "weld" between support pillars and the underside of the bride roadway structures, possibly that might result in segmenting of the Road / Traffic (sur-)Face Material mapping ? :scratchch

Perhaps you might try making support pillars and the underside of bridge roadway structures totally separate 3D objects placed in proximity ? :idea:

I have seen it happening on couple of custom bridges that I checked. I couldn't fixed it and came to the conclusion that it may be a bug in the sim...
 
I have also seen this at other destinations also with vanilla bridges - so I assume also this is a general bug in the sim. I will write a zendesk ticket.
 
Indeed, it appears MSFS-2020 has issues resolving draped BING grass and roadway imagery on top of the underlying (Apron ?) polygons when there is a superimposed "platform" at a different Altitude AGL.

This appears further complicated by both highway A_61 and B_49 Road surfaces at different Altitudes, being required to also display traffic vectors.

One might also wonder if there is an imprecision in (OSM ?) Road / Traffic vector data at the B_411 Ramp junction with a B_49 vector at shore level below the Moselle Viaduct:

Notice in the image above, that where the vehicle descends to meet highway B_49 (at an offset), is also where the B_411 Ramp has a junction with highway B_49.
