• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Vertice Count

I made a model hanger in Sketchup. There were several components, one I built myself and a few others from 3d warehouse. When I tried to export the mdl from ModelConverterX, I got the over 65xxx vertices error.

Is there a way to get a vertice count prior to exporting from MCX?

Hi,

The object information form in modelconverterx will also show you the vertex count.

Which modelconverterx version are you using? The latest version should be able to export such big models without errors.

Thanks guys - I will try those.

Version is 1.4.0.0 r 2025 DEV 12/15/2012

I will try to get the newer version.

MCX is not your issue. The Dev release you are using should have all the working files. I dont know if updating will fix this issue for FS9.

the 65000 vertecies limitation applies to the FS Compiler, not MCX. This is for FS9 correct?

The FS9 compiler has an overflow limit of 65536 triangles (not vertex to recollection) before the compile fails. There are ways to extend this but I cant recall where I got that information. I have hit this a bunch of times and had to split my models to compile them. Too bad we cant use the FSX compiler, i think this issue was rectified with that one.

Now if you are using sketchup, you have to be careful. It is easy to use way more triangles than intended. I always clean up my models to reduce this before exporting.

Note: appologies if it is vertecies. I cant remember if its 65536 triangles or vertecies. If this information is wrong, please add the correction. This was from memory.

Modelconverterx is supposed to work around those compiler limitations at export. Let me double check that for fs2004.
