• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

View problem with aircraft

My aircraft project for FSX has up to this point been going well until now. Suddenly a problem has occurred. The export from gmax appears to be the same as before with everything working as expected, however now when I go to select the aircraft the view is from a long distance away.

In the sim all views work with the except of the spot view which is also some distance away.

No sure where I went amiss - any ideas?

Hi,

You've got some object outside of your model that is drawn a long way in the distance. You might not be able to see it in gMax, but it will be there. ;) Find the offending primitive or dummy, and delete. It should be fine then! :D

Best regards,
Robin.

I tend to agree with Robin.

Could it be something as innocuous as a stray vertex?

I would "Zoom All Extents" and if your model is way too small in the screen, then I would really suspect a stray "something" (part/vertex, etc)

That was my first thought as well and have checked and re-checked but have no errant objects or vertices. Something else is going on here and I don't have a clue as to what it might be.

Probably something simple and easy to fix - if I just knew where to look.

Hi!

I had this problem when I used Middleman for export, and the solution was quite easy - (re)setting aircraft size using Afcad did the trick. Read the second page in this thread, and see what happens.

Unfortunately, Hans... AFCAD's Aircraft Editor won't open any model compiled with FSX's XtoMDL.exe file.

While in Max/GMax, display the entire project as "Bounding Box." Whichever part has the LARGEST "bounding box" is what's causing the eyepoint to be set so far distant.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have reviewed your reference threads and tried the suggested remedies. But alas no joy.

Screen shot in "Bounding Box" with zoom extents reveals nothing unusual to me.

As nothing else seems to be helping, are you loading into a saved flight that had a different aircraft? Sometimes view distances get upset up by the newly imported aircraft.
