• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Vista

Unfortunately that one doesn't work at all, it doesn't even dispay the dialog :(

I tried it as normal, in compatibily mode and with Administrator privileges. None worked.

George

SDE worked for me with Vista Home Professional.

Took this computer out of the box, tweaked a little on Vista and then loaded

1. FSX
2. SDK's
3. SDK SP1

Using SDE
0-90-2624
091-2628

Vista shipped with net Frame
1.0
1.1
2.0
3.0

Is there something else I should load and check for you?

Hi Jim

Thanks. I think the problem relates to 64bit operating systems. I can't remember if all Vista flavors are 64bit

Would you check that the vista test version of Bgl2Xml GUI works on your setup (link above)?

Jon

The bgl2xml.exe from the above link also worked perfectly.

What else can I check for you?

Hi Jim

I think that is it as far as Vista is concerned. Seems that SDE and clients will work with that operating system BglXml Command Line won't until I release the updates

Hi Jim,

I have a dual boot system (64bit Vista/XP Pro SP2) and have installed FSX to the same drive in both systems. This is necessary since not only does the installer add entries to the registry (different on both OS's) but also uses files in documents and settings (roaming). It also has the advantage that any changes to the FSX tree are reflected in both systems.

I am not sure if I am 32 or 64 bit Vista. I see conflicting info. Can you tell?

Says this

System Type 32 Bit Operating System

Processor: 1
CPU_Name: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz
CPU_Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
CPU_Caption: x64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7
CPU_Version: Model 15, Stepping 7
CPU_ProcessorId: BFEBFBFF000006F7
CPU_CurrentClockSpeed: 3200MHz
CPU_AddressWidth: 32Bits
CPU_DataWidth: 64Bits
CPU_SocketDesignation: Socket 775

Jim, you're 32bit.

Address width of 32bit is what keeps you limited to 4GB of memory total.

64 bit theoretically has a 16 exabyte cap (though in reality on Vista it's between 1 and 128 terabytes depending on the chip design).

Note that you can run a 32bit OS on a 64bit chip though I don't know if you can go the other way.

Yes Jim, you are running 32bit Vista. That's why you had no problems with SDE.

Thanks again for the confirmation that Phantoms posted

I have not had any problems and, all the FS utilities that I use for design are working.

The one program that does not load correctly is FSX. Of course it runs fine but seeing that FSX is billed as a Vista program it also fails to create a shortcut Icon for the Desktop and does not add anything to the Run/Programs menu like all other OS's (XP) did.

Thats not a problem for me because I made a shortcut and know where to find the exe's for repair and manuals if needed. I have seen other post about this issue so was expecting it.

I have some very old software such as MS Office 97 and it also loads and runs without using a compatibility mode.

FSX embeds the cfg and XML.dll a little deeper (hidden Apps\Roam folder) but you had already given me the hint on finding those in a earlier post. I needed to get into the XML.dll to change the path for the installed SDK's.
