The Constitutional Court of the federal Republic of Germany passed the treaty of Lisbon yesterday with just a few minor reservations. This means that our last institution finally surrendered to the undemocratic, bureaucratic and mostly unwanted regime called EU. What a sad day for my country.

Due to that I decided to change my profiles flag to Aotearoa (New Zealand) because this country is still free and democratic and I feel welcome here.

Plus, Vitus, shouting the Haka in German before tackling a new FS-X project just doesn't have the same feeling......

A world flag?

Agree, a World Flag is a good idea. However, as things stand, unfortunately Utopian (although the UN flags exist, of course).

For my own part: When Denmark (my home country) in 1972 was arguing about joining the (then) European Economic Community I participated actively in the anti-campaign. In the mid-nineties I worked as a consultant and programme coordinator in Latvia when this country together with many other former east-block countries applied for membership of the EU. I learned that the democratic block of Europe really made a difference to these countries, and well, I became then – if not before – an avid pro-European.

One World is better than regions or countries set against each other. One Europe is better than European countries set against each other.

For the moment let our contribution to a better world be exactly what we are doing now: let us unite in flight simming.

Peter

Felix,

true! If you migrate to another country, you will always be a foreigner. No doubt about that.
Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora! :D

Roby,

In my opinion this whole one-world-one-country thing just serves the bis corporations and their "elite". Simply because they have the money and power to be able to benefit from the open borders.
If you don't want the majority of the people suffering from this, you must have some restrictions particularly designed for a certain area - or country - or nation.
If we want to live in peace it is necessary that everybody benefits from business environment. I just don't see this happening.

Peter,

I am not against a big European community in general. I am sure that it is possible to find many different fields were the European countries can benefit from each other.
But as long as the European Union is designed as a completely undemocratic organization I just see a revival of the DDR - but this time bigger and more powerful than before.
And just to emphasize the word "undemocratic": Prof. Dr. K. A. Schachtschneider is professor for public law at the university of Erlangen and one of the complainant against the treaty of Lisbon.
If you are interested in his arguments, you can listen a talk he gave in Austria one year ago. It is held in German, but English subtitles are available. Click here.

I know, this is a FS forum. But in my opinion politics is just too important to be ignored. It is always worth discussing it, in a friendly manner. :)

All the best!

I quote a famous soccer player (Johan Cruijff) who said:

The UN needs to be disbanded. It is one of the worst things ever to happen to this world. Just read the crap they put out and unless you are insane, you can't NOT see what they are trying to do.

Nationalism is one of the GREATEST things people can ever have. I am 100000% pro United States. I hate our government...but our government is NOT the United States. I went to war for my country. I fought an enemy that wanted to kill me. Some of my friends were killed. When I hear the Star Spangled Banner, I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. One great thing about our country...is everyone gets a say. Many choose not to utilize that freedom, and that makes me wanna puke!!! How many people in our country died for that right. How many people around the world die and would die for the right to vote and have a say. Even if a small one. And yet, here, many people piss on the right. I may not agree with how elections come out, but I always vote. Have NEVER missed a vote since I turned 18. And yes, I think the voting age should be 16, BUT, I also think people should have to take a test before they vote to see if they even KNOW what the hell they are voting for or against.

ONE world will happen. And if like Star Trek, would be a great thing. But if it happens as the UN wants it, it will be the living hell we all dread. Hitler would have been better running this world than the UN. Yes, I said it. Get over it...it's MY opinion. At least Hitler was upfront with his insanity. The UN lies so much, most people don't even know what is going on.

Every person I know from Germany HATES the fact that they are in the EU. Amazing that so many hate it, you all vote if I read correctly, so why are you in it?

Oh well... enough of this..I'd go on for pages..

Unfortunately, we had never been given the chance of voting for or against the EU, the "European constitution" or the introduction of the EURO. Otherwise all these things could not have happened.
And that is exactly what I mean with the lack of democracy in Europe - or at least in Germany.
So sad...

Just an idea - maybe we should stop serving and fighting for our countries, but instead serve and fight for our PEOPLE. It would make a difference, don't you think? ;)

All the best!

In my definition democracy does not mean that you can vote over ever single decision. During the election you vote for a parliament and that way you elect people that you thrust to make decisions for you. After a couple of years you can vote again and on a different party if you are not happy with how things are going.

I think some decisions are just too complex to ask the people about, they can not oversee all the consequences. Look at the referendum we had in the Netherlands a couple of years ago about the first version of the Lisbon treaty. It was defeated, but not necessary for what is in the plan, but because people did not like the national government at the moment.

The Euro is another good example I guess. A lot of people complain about it, but in the end it seems to be quite a good thing for the Netherlands, given all the trading we do. So if you would have voted for that I guess it could have been a no, but maybe this is better for the country as a whole.

Good point Arno! I agree that many of the decisions are far too complex for everyone to understand.
BUT if 80% of the population say "no" against whether or not going to war in Afghanistan or Iraq or Sudan, or Lebanon, or, or, or.... and nevertheless the parliament decided to let our soldiers die, than something is going wrong with the democracy.
If the people are asked if they want their laws to be written by a bunch of bureaucrats, that are not elected by anyone and that cannot be deposed they answer with NO. Anyhow the parliaments of Europe decided to vote against the will of the people they represent.
I don't know whats going on in other European countries but in Germany it doesn't make any difference which party you elect, because basically they are all the same. No critical voices at all, just well-disciplined 'yes' men and women. (Example: our glorious green party - they were against any kind of war until they became parliament party in government.)

These decisions are way too important that we can accept that our politicians decide against the will of the people.

In my opinion the same thing is happening in USA at the moment. Mr. Obama promised to withdraw the troops as soon as possible (in one speech he said something like "I will begin to prepare the pullout by the first day of my presidency."). What is happening? Nothing at all.
He said that he will fight the financial crisis by reconstructing the system - guess who are the new secretaries? Most of them are Wall Street banksters...

So sad.... :ziplip:

Very true about the current USA situation. But we have one weapon in the power to vote. You see the President isn't all that powerful here. The True power in goverment here is in our legislative branch two chambers the congress and senate, thats were the true power is. Those two chamber hold the power to throw out the president through impeachment and can stonewall any of his calls and block him making him a lame duck. Also voters in the US can change the balance of power in those chambers. right now Obamas Democratic party is losing appeal and if that cont then power will shift and he is lame duck ineffective. Anotherwards we the people can neutralize the president. In our states many let the people decide laws through the power of vote.

Vitus, I feel with you. Noone can take anything away from your heart, don't give anything away for nothing :)

I could write a novel on my feelings about these kinds of subjects but I'll just type a few sentences...

EVERY country should be a soveriegn nation; Their borders, laws, and societies respected!

ALL of our differences should be embraced not fought over or disavowed because of "political correctness".

I find it far more believeable that the "complexity" of the world issues are only that way because our politicians made them that way. Don't forget all the "special interest groups" that really guide our leaders... They have more influence than you ever will!

Much like this forum... We are all different in too many ways to list. We may not agree with one another but we work together toward common goals...

One world government... BAD!
One world economy... BAD!

The constant merging of countries and economies will result in the loss of OUR uniqueness to one another, our cultures and traditions...

Now I'm gonna walk away and scream for a few minutes to relieve my aggravation...

Indeed they should. That is one of the things that the U.N is tasked to promote and, if necessary, enforce. How do they come to these decisions? Democracy yay!....

I disagree. I think what needs to happen is ALL member states need to respect the democratic decisions of other member states.....that is how democracy should work shouldn't it? Not looking at any one large, super power in particular haha ;)

Anyway Vitus- Welcome to 'Noo Zelind' ;) Even though the grass looks really green in those travel brochures, in reality it is no more green than other places.

Well.....maybe a little ;)

Thanks Timmo! But FSX proves you wrong:

There are 51 states in the USof A, yet it is one country with different cultures, different races and different political opinions.
Utopia?

OK... one more from me...

There are 51 states in the USof A...

51 states? Uh... OK... I'll accept the inclusion of the unofficial state of Puerto Rico... that is if the people of Puerto Rico truly want to be a part of this repubilc.

...Utopia?

Utopia? I don't think it's even close. Unfortunately too much from everyone's cultures has been lost or taken away over the years. Others are trying to force-feed theirs upon the masses...

In a perfect world... true. But what about countries like Burma, where the leaders would rather let the people die by the thousands than let outside help come in. As in last year's floods. If leaders do not respect the people, how can the people(or anyone else) respect them?

Bob

Now that is a true statement 110%. It is a shame to see leaders of there nations do that type of behavior to its own. Seen it to many times with the USCG when bring in Aid and supplies.
