• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

voice overs

Hello all,

I am thinking of starting with mission development. In the beginning, of course, I will only try short and simple missions, but for the larger missions later on I see a bit of a problem. I don't think I will be able to make decent voice overs, that's why I started thinking about alternatives.

One of the possible sollutions is to ask native english speaking persons to record some files for you, but where do you find those people ...
The alternative I see is to use a "voice generator". I used some of these progs a few years ago, just for fun. You type in a text and the computer speaks it out for you. However, the quality of the voice was not always the best.

Does any of you know such a program, that would be usable for making voiceovers for missions?

thanks!

Koen

Hi Koen,

I think those programs are not ideal for missions voice recordings. Why not do a mission without dialogs? The user is on his own and has only (default) ATC to communicate with. But I agree, that limits the mission a bit...

I think you can always try to find people out there for voice recordings. As this is maybe the toughest point of creating missions (good voice recordings are damn hard to get) you may want to start with your own voice - I had some nice results with that in my first missions. ;)

Okay Thorsten. I agree that finding good recordings can be quite hard :)

Do you have tips on programs to manipulate voice recordings (eg my own voice). I'm not a voice actor so I don't think I would be able to produce different believable voices myself ;)

I'm working with audacity - it works on mac as well as PC and you can do a lot of things with it.
And best of all: opensource and freeware. :)

thanks!

will start experimenting tonight ;)

Don't expect results soon, as I'm rather busy at this time :)

Hardest thing left for now is thinking about a scenario...

I'm using Audacity as well for my voice recordings in my first mission. It's an awesome program. I still can't believe it's freeware.

Hi Koen:

I would be willing to lend a hand in the creation of your mission. (Assuming that we both have the luxury of a little time on our hands) I've worked on AETI's Proflight 2000, as well as JDT LLC's Radar Contact ATC software.

Let me know if there is a level of interest on your part.

Hey Tom,

thanks for the offer. I will keep it in mind ;)
I have not even started a tutorial mission, so it could take a while until I make a real effort to produce a distributable mission :)

voice trading

Hey.. maybe we can do a trade? I am Canadian and I am building missions but I could use some alternate accents :) I would record some voice for you if you would do some for me :)

sure, if you want a crappy Belgian-English accent ;)
As I am building a new pc right now, and am very busy for work I will not need voice for quite a while, but if I can help you with some recordings I'd be glad to :)

Native english speaker here also, mail me if you need anything done. Maybe it would be good to put all the volunteer voice actors in one thread.;)

TTS voices can be good

yaaa sure but knot if you buy the voices. they are VERY expensive but there are other, less pricey ones.:stirthepo

Most pricey is always to ask your friends. :D

I had very nice results trying some people from the country where the mission is located. It's much more important to get the correct "feeling" instead of professional speakers.
