• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Wake Effect for Static Ships BY David "Opa" Marshall
I want to make a small boat wake.

I copied and changed the name of fx_wakeg.fx to fx_wake_4_s_boat.fx
then followed Wake Effect for Static Ships TUT
I get this result for every fx ship or boat wake that did not come with his package.

I read the posts on this forum and tried a couple of edits with out any change I could see.

What and where to edit.

Thanks

Effect Assistance Needed -

I too have been experimenting with the use a default effects as "objects" - and am getting the same vertical display issue.

I do have three effects (animated wakes) which do work properly and have been comparing them to a default effect file such as fx_wake.fx but cannot seem to figure out what the difference is which makes one work and the other not.

I'll be happy to send a copy of one of the effect files which does work (displays a horizontal wake when used as an object) to anyone who is interested in looking at it and perhaps pin-pointing the edit(s) which need to be made in other wake effect files in order for them to work properly as an object.

Hope some Effect Guru is reading this and can be of assistance - as I have very little hair left to pull out! ;)

Thanks in advance.

Are there any such creatures in existence? I've so, I've never met one!

If these effects are being "Attached" in GMax or Max, make sure that you've set the pivot point to Align to World coordinates.

Okay, then they are being placed via an aircraft.cfg file entry?

It does me no good whatever to mention "Wake Effect for Static Ships" since I've never read it, nor do I know where to find it to read. ;)

Then let me take you by the hand a lead you to the info.
