Hey people of FSDeveloper, I had one of those light bulbs in my head after a frustrating experience with an economy system.
I just wanted to share a little outline for a project to create my own, free, economy platform for flight simulators, and see if anyone here had any thoughts or concerns about it.
Any input would be appreciated, I just want to gather opinions before I start putting anything into this.

Open Economy is a project I have been planning on doing for a while out of frustration with the limitations of almost every economy system available for flight simulators, this stems from outdated airport data, lack of a proper economy, lack of tools to create "businesses", and a few more issues I will specifically outline later on.
What I plan to accomplish with Open Economy:
Open Economy will be a *partially* open source project, this means that there will be certain things the public can change in the system using GitHub, but many of the core files will be private to only active developers to prevent cheating.
I want open economy to be a powerful, realistic, and modern economy world for flight simulators.
Basic operations of Open Economy:
- Partially open sourced, things like aircraft and airport databases, economic simulation, and more will be open to the public.
- Available for all major simulators (MSFS, X-Plane 11, Prepar3D v4 and v5)
- A team of casual developers who can build and support the system alongside myself, I am an amateur developer so my own knowledge is not sufficient enough to fully create a project of this scale.
Basic "world" fundamentals of Open Economy:
- Realistic economies that are well researched and represent their respective regions.
- Catering to airliner and general aviation operations, this will be elaborated in a future post.
- Constant updating of databases, this includes aircraft and scenery.
To elaborate on "realistic economies":
Economies will be constructed to give payouts that match what you would most likely receive for that job in the region/economy you are flying in, I plan on making economies easily adjustable and of course all files can be edited and contributed to the repository.
With payouts, there are also fees, lot's of the economies we have for flight simulators as of date don't really take care of fees well, and I intend on tidying this bracket up by having realistic fees, this includes FBO fees that could increment or decrement with the size and scope of the airport, and of course the region this airport is in.
Along with this, I plan on adding much more, including simulation of inflation, interest rates, the ability to lease and lease out your aircraft, and of course businesses! I will add more to this later.
