• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

weird problem

Greetings,

I'm trying to create a "seadrome" platform using FSDS 3.51. I used a vertical tube and then edited the points to get the desired shape. In wireframe mode everything looks great, and in some angles it looks right on the perspective view, but flip it over, and this weird plane gets added in. Any ideas?

FSDS (and I guess other modelling programs also)does not like "kinked" polygons.

I suggest that you delete that top polygon and redo the "top" into three polygons - two "end" rectangular platforms and the central octagonal platform.

so in general i should create objects using combos of the different shapes w/o moving the points around? it seems a bit strange, because all the highly detailed models must involve lots of fine tuning points and what not...i figured this is a fairly simple shape.

anyway, one other question...i'm also trying to build a sloped hangar roof. once again i used the tube shape to do it, with both ends closed. but every time i do it, when it starts out both ends are close, but by the time i'm done editing, one end is open. same when i try to fashion a fuselage, once i've started shaping one end is always open.

#1 - for your platform, it's just that "top" polygon that needs to be split.

#2 - Typically, I always use open-ended tubes for my fuselages and objects, and I'll "close" the ends either by welding (oops - "joining") the points at the end or creating the endcap (er - END) polygons manually.

(NOte to Arno: Please forgive the lapses into gmaxSpeak :) )
