• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA WEP Switch

Hi,

Keep in mind that water injection did not provide any extra power at a given throttle setting, it only allowed you to increase the throttle further to increase the manifold pressure beyond the normal limits without destructive detonation occurring. That's why it was also called Anti-Detonation Injection (ADI). I don't know how WEP was generated, but if via water injection it did not provide a magical increase in MAP.

Tom is correct, mostly.

I mentioned this to Larry via VoIP, however for others that are following this thread.. WEP was more or less a 'rating' given to an engine. In other-words normal use, and max. For example, full throttle in some applications would be considered "War Emergency Power". However, there wasn't any specific toggle, or switch to trigger it. What there was however, was often a means of either manually, or automatically using ADI when maximum power was being achieved, as a means of cooling CHT and thus reducing the risk of detonation. It is worth noting however, that in some applications, water injection can and has been used for an increase in power as well. The water-Alcohol mixture essentially increases the octane rating of the fuel, allowing slower burn rate, and more efficient use of fuels, which can equal greater overall power.

I'm sure there is much study on the subject floating around the inter-webs for those interested.

An antidetonation feature has been available since FSX Acceleration (in the P-51), but I've never played with it so far.

Hi,

Good point. I assume that some mechanisms could automatically increase the fuel flow when you throw the ADI switch, leading to more power. That's why I hedged about the WEP situation, since I didn't know what that entailed. I should have said that AFAIK water injection does not increase power at a given fuel flow. While sources like Wikipedia say that it can increase power "in certain circumstances", those circumstances turn out to be things like increased compression ratio, not things that you can typically change with a flip of a switch.
