• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Wesel - City building issues

Hi Girls and Guys!

Well, I've created my hometown for FSX.
I am using SBuilderX to create photoreal textures , Blend and Watermask created with Photoshop and I am using resample to create my bgl files.
After edeting Background image, blend and watermask for better results... old scenery returned as you can see in Problem2.jpg. How to get back a nice waterline?

The other big issue is the elevation data as you can see in Problem3.jpg. I've just made a Flattern for the local Airfield. What do you recommend for projects like mine?

I hope you can help. If there are questions, just ask.

Thanks,
Ben :-)

Sorry for no reply yet....

Problem 1: You ChannelWatermask should be greyscale.

Draw around the water body and SELECT>FEATHER (Choose about 20 pix depending on resolution) and fill the area in near black. It will make a gradient around your selection area.

Then put a layer in underneath and make it white.

Don't make it completely black, use some of the imagery to make the water look great.

2: Use ADE to make a graded flatten polygon. You can change the altitudes of each vertex. It is f***ing amaing!

Hey Shaun, thanks for relpy!

1. It was kind of funny. With my first edit with resample all worked fine... but during my changes on my photoscenery .bmp files things getting bad.
At least the watermask should be a 24bit greyscale. Actually it is true black and true white. Maybe Problem.jpg is a bit confusing (sorry for that) ... watermsk is true black and true white and blendmask has a little bit of fade at the edges.

2. Oh no, I've made a flattern poly for the airport with Sbuilder. It was kind of hard work, I have to do it for the whole river and scenery?

Thank you, Ben

You can slope them in SBuilder, but I prefer ADE.

I don't understand what you're saying. I would have white and faded to dark grey for the water mask.

If the problem is the default terrain sticking through it, put a water polygon there. But this is quite hard to do if I remember correctly...

AH! There's your problem! Don't black over the water with the channel_blendmask! Leave all the water white in the blendmask and let the watermask handle it!

Then you wont see the default terrain peeping out by the shoreline!

Yes that's it! Got my shorleines back und need to paint above the photoscenery to paint away things in the water.
After that I will create some flattern with ADE.
Thank you very much Shaun! :-)

Thanks! It my very first scenery ... still having probs with gmax modeling and stuff like that. But I think creating realistic mesh for the whole City area will be a bigger problem and much more work.

Creating a mesh? What do you mean? You can just get geotiff elevation data and resample it.

I wouldn't try to do more than a few problematic areas with the ground polygons.

Because there is no free high definition elevation data for germany, I have to do it with ADE and sloped flattern. A lot of boring work...
Still need to fix some edges. Or is there any chance to connect Polygon Vertex?
