• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What about a FsDeveloper Discord server?

I was thinking that would be great to have a discord server to quickly talk about general flight sim development. Just a general chat, not for support or showcase as we already have this awesome forum for it.

What do you think?

Past experience for me is that sort of thing slows me down a lot if I am trying to advance a project on a given night. What we have here currently is good for me. :)

We have tried this in the past. For example we had a TeamSpeak server for a while. But experience shows that it is not used so much after a while. You need enough people using it, else it has no value.

And personally I would also find it too distracting in the limited time I have. So I like to use the forums.

personally i wish discord would die, people have been seeing it as an alternative to forums .. which is just isnt!

So looks like it wouldn't be a good idea.
I enjoy use discord when i'm away from home, not spending my time in something important. But i understand this is not the case for everyone, so now i agree is better to continue with just the forum :)

Wow, that was an education. I did not know what Discord was and assumed it was some sort of chat client. I remember while working for the guys in Kuwait I had to post progress shots on some sort of organizing website, Trello, I think. So I Googled Discord and now I know what revenge porn is, huh. Go figure, the app named for Kallisti has some controversy attached. Thanks Felipe, but on the basis that flight sim development should never need get that real, I think we'd agree that what's here is already pretty perfect.

The Milviz team uses Skype for instant communications. Oftentimes it is a distraction for me, especially when I'm in the middle of doing some work in Max, Photoshop, etc. On the other hand, sometimes it is very useful if two of us are collaborating on selected portions of a project. :coffee:
