• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

what drives sound?

Strange issue developed that I hope sombody with FSX sound knowledge can help me with.

Here's an addon and its sound configuration....

sound2.jpg

I have listened to the sound files, the are correct. Within FSX however all landing tire screech souds are the sound of wooshing water, like landing a float plane. This appears to be almost universal to all my addons with few exceptions. I have checked several aircraft configs and sound files and they are all referencing their intended WAV files but the game plays xwaterloop.wav instead of the specified tire screetch sounds on touchdown.

Is there somewhere that a master WAV alias for right_ center_ and left_touchdown may have been set?

Deleting xwaterloop.wav cures the wrong sound file, but does not address the lack of landing sounds after deletion.

Have a look at the contact points in the aircraft.cfg. I think they determine what parts trigger what type of contact sounds.

CP table still calls for left center and right gear. There is nothing to indicate water.

What would universally change all my GA's. This is not isolated but quite sweeping. All the sound CFG files are intact and all the sounds they call are intact and correct.

Nobody has any idea why all things being as they should, FSX would substitute sounds?

I am not using the default install directory, FSX resides on it's own drive. i doubt that has much to do with it because I am sure FSX searches directories for sounds relative to the base install directory.

touchdown=fx_tchdwn,1

Have a good look in all of your aircraft.cfg find under heading [EFFECTS] see if:- touchdown=fx_tchdwn,1 is listed.
You must have a sound file and an effects file installed. There are many freeware programs you can download that will give you a tyre screech when you land, they include both a sound file and an effects file.

Hope this helps

Ah, necroed a nearly year old post. I suspect that the OP either found the problem by now, or perhaps gave up... :stirthepo
