• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

What is your personal fave flight simulator?

What is your own, personal favorite 'go-to' flight simulator?

FS2004?
FSX?
FSX Steam?
P3D V1, V2, V3, V4, V5?
X-Plane 10?
X-Plane 11?
Aerofly II?
Something else?
Space simulator? SciFi?

My 'go to' fave sim is P3D V4, but second is probably XP11. I rarely fly it though. Very rarely.... No addons in it. I still love V4. Most of its scenery is horrible, nothing like XP. But I have large area's that have ORBX scenery, so I am good in those area's. (Secretly playing TS2020 lately... Train Simulator by DoveTail. Calms my nerves at night.... )

I am looking forward to FS2020. Cant fly P3D V5 as I do not have Windows 10.

The new MSFS. I've deleted all other sims (even DCS) and I'm not going to re-install any of them. The only other sim development I keep watching is Deadstick.

I'm all for the new MSFS also, nothing else comes close I'm afraid, even without VR ( and I'm a total VR nut ). Prior to that, it was P3D v4.5 - v5 looks promising to surpass it, but it's not quite there yet.

I like low level flight, sight seeing. as Bill said, P3D still have horrible in scenery. unfortunately no ORBX product for Indonesia, then build my own scenery and airport.
bit worry with P3D v5, cause as far as I follow the update, each time P3D update it get heavier than previous. From my point of view, there no big different on latest P3D than FSX. so better waiting FS2020, stay in v4.5 at the moment
X-Plane 11, I love the flight model, but not for autogen scenery.

I had to update to win 10 to run DX12 for P3Dv5. They stated it's compatible with win 8.1 on their "min sys req", and also had Dx12 next to that.

Took me a while to get why v5 was hanging on startup and wouldn't run... until I saw dxdiag running in task manager. So I just bought the license, downloaded the win tool manager and let it run (after backing everything up)!

PC runs better with Win10, recommend.

I use FS2004, DCS 2.5.6, IL2NG, and Prepar3D V4.5

I bought Prepar3D V5, but i ask a refund, because i found it too much bugs, (for me is not a release, is a beta )

(probably in the futur i will buy the V5, when became stable)

I am also looking for, Deadstick, and FS2020...

DCS and IL2NG are very good for combat sims, and even for "look and feel, but sadly no SDK to develope freeware for (terrain, etcetera)

For long haul IFR I prefer X-Plane 11, for everything else I still use FSX.
P3D never really got me with its much less user friendly main menu (FS2002 was better than that)

Definitely looking forward to FS2020 :)

For me its P3d , especialy with V5. The type of aircraft I like to fly, the extreme study level stuff (and not jets) , you don't realy find anywhere else.
I now everybody says X plane is supposed to be more life like, But I dont agree.
I tested A2A's Bonanza Vtail out on a friends PC. I have yet to find an aircraft more fun and more life like, Payday cant come fast enough. LOL

I am also looking forward to, Deadstick, and FS2020...

X-Plane 11 on Linux is my main sim at the moment, which is also the reason why I only rarely boot into Windows anymore.
IL-2 1946 with BAT and VPMedia modpacks on Linux via WINE, which is still the benchmark for a jack of all trades in terms of combat flightsimming.
FlightGear on Linux if I feel like compiling something.
ArmA 3 on Linux via Proton if its realistic helicopter flight model counts.
Reentry on Linux via Proton, although I've only had time for my Mercury-Redstone/Atlas type rating so far.

The 4.34.x release of Falcon BMS sadly seems to have some issues on Linux with WINE, so no modern jet combat at the mment for me.

I've been a die-hard MSFS fan since FS98. Currently I only use FSX, but I will be in line to get FS2020 upon release day!! But thank you to those that reminded me about Deadstick! I saw the previews of it before it was released and told myself I was going to buy it... then life happened. Is it still worth the purchase, with FS2020 coming?

I didnt know it was released. Off to check that out.

Er, you’ll need Windows 10 for FS2020, won’t you?

I'll be getting a Win 10 rig hopefully in the near future so I can run FS2020. Thats a must, right? We 'need' this... We are FS freaks. This new 2020 looks proper...

My goodness man... You even left Windows! to Linux! That is a long jump!

I had heard about Wine. They use that in the Apple world as well. When I was so mad at Millenia (or what ever it was called), I was into Apple, mad that they took away WinXP. I was trying to break totally free from Windows, but nothing could run FS2004... :(

Deadstick isn't out yet. Even if there's still a long way to go for MSFS it's already incredible immersive and the flight model is also very promising. As Deano1973 pointed out, even without VR.
It's a new immersion level and it will be really difficult for Deadstick to be similar immersive, despite all the special features.
As a developer you don't have a choice anyway IMO.

Not really. Been using Linux on and off since 2012 or so and X-Plane just turned my operating system usage upside down. Windows 10 is still installed on all my computers, although I dread using it by now because keeping all programs up to date is just tedious. On Linux, it's a simple click or console command.

If you think about it, all operating systems function the same way anyway, so the most difficult part is learning the new nomenclature and what's different.

Haven't tried FS9 yet, but FSX is basically unusable on Linux' WINE (broken menus). Which is a bit of a shame. Then again, it at least forced me to move on and try something new.

Just discovered a new sim in the experimental field. Acro FS. Aerobatics flight simulator. Free right now at Steam.
